Again, not feeling comfortable in the interior of an engine,

How inside is interior? OK to take off a valve cover? Rotate an engine by hand? Look at your flywheel? You can adjust your own valves...good place to start. It'll teach you the basics of timing. None of us here were born experts. I learned mine by trial & error (lot of error) before 'Mud was a glimmer in Woody's eye.
The early F is extremely forgiving, will run even if only 2 out of 3 necessary conditions are present. They WANT to run. You cannot hurt them by adjusting things. There is nothing inside a F engine that is beyond you.
Argue for your limitations long enough and you get to keep them.

Perhaps the PO bought it with the after-market dashpad cover already installed and did not know? (perfectly understandable...)

In this sellers case, perfectly understandable if the story's true.

Bought a month or so before being diagnose with colon cancer. Been struggling with, since.

Hope to get a lot more info upon delivery.

B) if yours ever goes bad, people give away 3-speed trannys...

Does anyone give away 4 speed tranny's? Haha.

That's what I think I'd like to eventually pursue.

make sure you get someone who is versed in cruisers to do this.

That will be a for sure.

Also, you may want to consider putting in a 4 speed (h42) while you have it out. They are cheap and having a 4th gear would be nice. I get 58 on the highway in my 72 with the 3 speed, it feels like it's whining any more than that. Most of the time I in 2nd or 3rd anyway, 1st is only for full stops.

That's what I was looking up.

Do you have inventory on the older LCs, too?

If you need a shop and cant find anyone around you, I highly recommend Land Cruiser Specialist if you want to come to Austin. Edwin and company are very knowledgeable and very reasonable and fair. I take my rigs there when I dont feel like doing something :) Most of the Austin guys do the same.

Believe I spoke with them about checking out an 80 in Austin, once, but have heard then referenced many time. Good to know and thanks for the suggestion.

I am guessing yours is before 9/72?, which makes parts harder to find. Mine is. Cruiser Corps sells a dash pad for the 9/72 and later, but earlier models require modification. I am not sure what that entails. Do you know pighead? or anyone else?

I don't know, yet.

We'd discussed him scanning and emailing title for VIN, but that was before a Monday meeting was broached.

Wishing I had the VIN now.

A 1F, on the other hand, can be serviced by illiterate Aborigines.

Hahaha. Point taken.

Valid argument and point taken here, as well.

Argue for your limitations long enough and you get to keep them.

- Pighead, circa 2013.....

Just remember this in coming months/year/years.

Cruisercorps in OKC does mechanical work in addition to their online sales, I'd recommend them ;-)

Josh will kick my ass, but I forgot about them.

Last trip I was there...

Sure, sometimes...not as often as 3 speeds.
Plus, to convert to a 4 speed, you'd need the 4 speed bellhousing, the 4 speed transfer case, re-sized drive shafts, maybe flanges..a dozen odds & ends to drive it. Nothing wrong with a 3 speed, we drive the '62 FJ40 to & from work regularly, I like the 3-on-the-tree.

Engine is a runner, she's got that going for her.

Won't start without help, assuming a bad cable.

Clutch is shot and brakes are non-existent.

Glass, nor rear door functions.

Little renegotiation.

Seller forgot title, no money exchanged yet.

Looks to be yellow, which may be out of the question.

Ok, you asked so I will be candid (dont have me :D) I am sure some other pig gurus will chime in, ones who know these better than I.

Personally, i would not have gotten it, or at least not for that price. What recourse do you have?

I think the seller misrepresented it some. Posted are 2 questions on the ad. Check the floorboard, is it rusty? The body mounts need to be replaced. Are the floorboards solid?

Q: What is the condition of the deck, rust holes thru the floor pan? How many miles on the engine? Jun-03-13
A: behind rear seat passenger side rusted thru where bracket holds rear seat at wheel well. miles on engine not sure. odometer reads 06115. the engine looks like a rebuilt engine. runs very strong. front and rear floor boards are solid.

Q: any rust? floorboards? rockers? Jun-03-13
A: yes there is rust on passenger side behind rear seat. as for floorboards they appear to be solid.

After having my Canadian BJ70, I know all to well what/where rust can do/grow. Not to mention trying to work on a rusty vehicle.

Fortunately, all is not lost. bobm makes 55 body parts!!! Contact him on what you may want to do.

Yellow title? Whats that mean? Is that salvage?

It needs a birf job badly. However, before going through the trouble of doing it, I would get FJ60 parts and do a disc conversion. You will want discs over drums. Then you can do the birf job while you swap your parts over.

Hopefully the drivetrain is good. Outside of the body work, I will have to agree with Pighead that this would be a great time to learn how to do some of this stuff, as it will save you some coin that you can put towards body work. Thats an art unto itself I am finding out.

Pour yourself a cold one and relish that you are now a pig owner and that it's a journey to get it where you want. Congrats!

Make darn sure everything is right with the title, BEFORE you exchange funds. You did good by not giving him any yet. Then you have to decide how far you want to go, work and money wise and get at it. BobM for your body parts, as stated above.

Good luck with it and keep it fun!

Frame look crusty but solid, front body mounts are gone (bob makes these) but its a good time to replace them when you're doing the floors. Looks pretty complete, gonna need some love but I wouldn't be terrified for a pig. All the interior bits there?

Tucker

Don't candy coat, I think I can take it.

I've seen worse...
Believe the engine was rebuilt...it's hard to paint a block blue with it in the rig.
'69 dizzy, new gear reduction starter, hard to believe they didn't replace the clutch...

Hey Chris, Just to give you some prospective. I recently bought a pig myself. It was an impulse buy from out of state. Was somewhat mislead from the PO, but ended up bringing it home. Paid way too much, but I just have to live with it. I bought a body shell from Jason at CruiserYard about a month ago and at this point I have the old body off the frame. I've taken off what I can salvage and all that remains is the shell. My plan is to scrap it. Some of the body mounts are good as well as parts of the flooring and wheel wells. You are welcome to any of it. I'd be happy to cut out the pieces you might need for free and send them your way, just cover the shipping. If you are interested pm me a list of what you need. Mark
