Would take a while but have a 76 with original exhaust in another location. The exhaust is run under the skid plate. The pipe changes sizes under the skid plate with a weld. Doesn't look factory but parts diagrams shows it.

@Living in the Past thank you! i have the diagram from Toyota. Had them print it while I waited for some service to get done. It is factory as far as I can see as well. I just want to see how it looks naturally. I’d like to get a muffler shop to try and replicate it as close as they can, since I can’t pick up a new one.. lol

don't know if u knew about the HAYNES diagrams , this image #1

rest of these are the 79-84 fj40 2F exhaust diagrams , they have very useful idea and planning info related to

your up coming exhaust system custom install your getting done

The front pipe coming down out of the Manifold then routing up over the drivers front frame rail just makes so

much more sense to me now , then continue with the period correct 1977 route u currently have planned maybe

somehow ?

Believe Haynes used factory diagrams. Have a number of those but easier just looking up on the internet. My 76 only has 4,500 miles on it and exhaust is still like it left the factory.

Personally would use the 79+ muffler/tailpipe. If really looking for original could remove the hanger on the tailpipe and use the simple hanger the 77 had and replaced the three bolt flange for a four bolt flange. But someone in the PHX area is making the three bolt flange to use on the pipe at the muffler inlet. My 76 and 79 are both out of town otherwise could snapped pictures.

Looking for the over the the frame pipe that the diagrams highlighted as Gator's 40. Found a place in Australia with aftermarket pipe minus the EGR pipe which I don't need but out of stock. Have the heat shield for firewall already.

Here are a few pictures of my 76. First three are when I bought it. Last one is when I was checking how some different rims would look.

very nice !

on a side note , how did u get fist generation 15" IFS 4wd " Snow-Flake" alloys to fit a 40 series like that , especially up front o_O

and are u using the standard Acorn style Lug Nuts with them instead of the flange washer alloy toyota lugs ?

when i tried years ago it was a loosing battle

interesting ..............

Those are off a 91/92 FJ80. They require a wheel spacer on the front. Was thinking of using this style on my FJ45. Have a 84 40 series disc brake axle that seems to be a little better clearing later rims. 16" rims only required a 1/4" spacer on the front of the 76.

As for IFS rims those came in two sizes. One shows no offset while the other shows 8. The 80 series shows 10.

I added some shinny bits as well! I was also rereading this thread. Wow. I know so much more now than I did starting out. I’ve met some really helpful people, and actually (although it doesn’t look like it..) come a long way on this build. It’s turning into a functional OEM vehicle. Happy happy happy.

This might sound dumb, but does anyone know how to remove the lock on the ambulance doors? I can’t find it in the Haynes or the FSM. A little assistance please.

I have defroster vents coming from Australia thanks to a mud member, so I decided to prep the area.. I did not anticipate the level of teardown I was going to have to do for that!!! The PO put some siding aluminum on the vent holes and riveted it.. top AND bottom. So I had to put down the windshield. To put down the windshield I had to practically take off the top.... snapped at least 6 bolts.... :(....then to spray in pb blaster on the rest, I decided to take out the home brewed headliner. No more surprises there, awesome!! Got it up, got the window down, got the aluminum off and everything cleaned up!! Thank goodness! New parts list for Toyota... lol
