Well ive owned atleast 7 jeeps. Tj, yj, mj, 2 zj , 3 xjs. My last one Xj was a mild built. Lockers front and rear, long arms, tsl 33s blah blah. Well i thought i was done with the off road seen but i guess not lol. I told my gf i wasnt going to buy another jeep haha well i didnt lie. I picked up a 1975 mustard yellow fj40. Basically stock. Has 32" tsl and lunch box locker. It doesnt have a top or hard doors but ill get a soft top for it soon. When i bought it he said the 4wd didnt work. So i was like well as long as it starts and drives im ok with it. So i got it for $2500 yesterday. I let it sot over night and started to play witj it today. I jacked the front end up and locked the hubs and rototed wheels and worked just like an open dif should. So i went for a test drive and 4wd worked great. Idk if he just didnt lock hubs or what. Maybe i need to drive it more. But also i noticed it was stuck in low so gotta figure that out.

Also has 4 wheel disc brakes

Let me know what u think.

congrats ... based on the pics, looks like rust in the usual spots ... my view is as long as the frame's good, there's something to build around ... hopefully the 4 wheel drive thing is now fixed ... know about the Jeep thing ... had a CJ for 11 years ... good luck with your 40 and welcome ...

. But also i noticed it was stuck in low so gotta figure that out.

Very common occurrence...usual fix is to put the transmission in reverse, dump the clutch once or twice, try moving the T/C shifter after each dump.

Ill try that reverse thing tom. I just picked up a hobart handler 140 a few hours ago. Cant wait to get making bumpers and fixing up the rust. What are some good place for parts? Also need some advise on which spft top to buy. Is best top good? I rather have a hard top and doors but cant seem to find any in my area. Also the front head light bezel is upside down? Haha good eye. The fj is pretty complete. Has the jump seats but needs redone have the spare tire carrier and a skid plate and some weird looking brackets. He said they are a rare cross member bracket. Any ideas

Stop calling it an FJ.

Im so used to jeep code names i guess lol. Well here are the brackets and the header that came with it. The toyota ? Came from california so it has all the weird emmision stuff on the side of the block. Idk if i can delete or not.

If/when I buy another 40 it will be a 75 Mustard Yellow. Mustard because it's my favorite stock color and 75 because it's the latest year without requiring emissions iinspection in Cali. A nice thing to not have to worry about on a 40 year old vehicle.

Having 4 wheel discs is nice. I'm still 4 drums but will be upgrading to FJ62 knuckles and discs soon.

Good luck with your 40.

Thanks. Im pretty excited to own a that u dont see every day or even once a month. I only know of one other guy that has one and he loves it. I had a choice between jeep cherokee, samuria and this and i think i made a great choice.

What should i call it haha

...40, FJ40, LandCruiser, Land Cruiser, Toy, (your rig's nickname here)...almost anything except jeep or FJ. Toyota ruined everything for us LandCruiser owners by naming an exceptionally inferior vehicle "FJ cruiser" and causing all this confusion.

Oh, and Welcome :flipoff2:

Shifting from low to high can be stiff, it's likely ok. Sometimes it'll just need a firm tap.

$2500 seems like a good price.

You've got a saddle mount and wing mount for a V8 conversion.

Toyota FJ is the plastic cruiser that they are discontinuing ... We drive FJ40's or 40's... Land cruiser or even truck :)

There are many different versions of FJ's.... Not including the above mentioned cruiser... Notably fj45's, fj45lv's, fj43, fj55, fj60, fj62, fj80 and many others Inbetween

Btw welcome to the cruiser world :)
