I found a review that said exactly what I was thinking:

Upon inspection of this product, the molded plastic appears to be cheap, but it looked sturdy and functional. I installed the product in my car, but the first time I leaned over the product to pick something up that fell onto the passenger side floor, the mounting plastic pieces shattered into numerous very sharp-edged pieces. The top portion of this product is great, but the flimsy mounting is garbage.

Not trying to be a downer or anything and I'll probably be getting one too, just wondering about the best way to mount.

Well, so far my 2 and 4 yr old have been climbing all over my interior and still no issues. But like I said before, if the supplied plastic bracket breaks, then I will simply Fab up a metal one to replace it.

Installed some cup holders for the back seats.
So now I have a total of 4. Two up front and two for the rear.

just ordered one. now they are $75. thanks for the write up. Can't wait to get rid of the gap

Just installed mine. Thanks a lot to OP for figuring it out. The unit is descent. A little cheao overall IMO. $70 doesnt go very far so I wasnt expecting anything more. I ended up using one of the legs and also screwed into center console. It is perfect for an armrest and a little extra storage. Matches great. Thanks again. A couple pics.

No problem guys, glad to close the gap between you and that far away place called the center console. :)

For what it's worth, if any one is looking for one of these in tan, I ordered one and will sell it as new(I never got around to installing it) for $45 shipped.

Just an update on my arm rest. I noticed on long trips there is NO padding in the armrest. So I took off the material and installed a gel pad that I used off a bike seat cover.....Then a couple layers of thin foam...Re covered it. It's AMAZING!! I can put my boney elbow on there for as long as I want and is nice and soft. I now sounds gay but it really makes the armrest that much better!

The padding is much softer than stock. But Wow. You took it to the next level.

I had some time and no other maintnance to do. Took 30 min.

I found an upholstery shop and had them add 3-4" of foam and material to the oem arm rest. Worked pretty good. Wasn't $60 bucks either.

But you still have a big gap/reach to the oem location...

Ya but it's taller so you don't have to gangsta lean.
