I was losing brake fluid in the rear brake fluid reservoir on the master cylinder and figured it had to be a leaky rear wheel cylinder. You can see the leak in this pic out of the front side of the cylinder on the passenger side of the truck. The driver's side had the same leak but on the rear side of the cylinder. Both cylinders got replaced.

Definitely not a stock center arm. And the left framerail would not have had the boxing to support a later center arm. That box looks homemade. And the center arm is partially welded on?

Yes, I believe the PO (Rancher) had all the upgrades done years ago. With the hacking of the frame to mount the over-sized winch, I had to repair the front frame rails and weld in new box sections. I observed that the front most cross-member where the center arm bolts was the original style without the squared bump-out. The shop that had done all the work, must have added the shims between the center arm and the angled frame so that it would mount squarely like the newer 40/45's with the squared bump-out, The center arm is bolted on and not welded.

I will try to take a better photo of the shim set-up tomorrow and post it. I had found somewhere else on MUD where someone had posted a similar question about shimming the new style center arms on the older trucks.

Pics of the front of my red 77 FJ40 with the squared ends of the front cross-member which is basically perpendicular to the ground and allows the newer style center link/arm to bolt directly to it without need of a shim. You can see the center section of the front cross-member still retaining the angled/sloped portion just below where the front bib hinge is located.
