Help with carb disassembly

I watched the first few of Pinhead's carb videos and dug into this one. I was stumped when the venturi/float housing won't come apart from the iron butterfly lower housing. I have to get them apart to loosen stuck butterflies.

What am I missing?

2 barrel carb

Hey 69LC,
Take the isolator block off the bottom of carb,
If memory serves there is a large screw in the center of the base going up to the mid section .

here is a picture of a 2 barrel

In this pic it is number 73

I remember when carbs were the plentiful and the shop I worked for had a large tub we'd drop the carbs in and they would soak overnight... One thing worse than Lucas electric is zenith stromburg and SU carbs

I don't know toyota carbs... I got rid of mine 20 yrs ago for a weber :)

I was able to take the main parts of the carb and dunk them in the parts washer for a while at work today. I'm not so sure I can get this back together…

I also blasted the locking hub dials and am in the process of repainting them.

Last night I started mocking up the fj60 knuckles onto the front axle to determine where to splice the shortened fj60 tie rod. Pics of that soon.

My advice would be to slow down on the rusted bolts and nuts. It's going to be a real pain replacing them after you've snapped them all off.
I'd get a small oxyacetylene setup (or at least MAPP) and some PB Blaster. Spray everything you want to remove and give it a while. Then heat the bejesus our of them.

CC was given a concussion during cheer practice just before winter break. She's not doing much these days, so I keep plugging away. She's no longer in cheer, but has 12 weeks, twice a week at a concussion clinic.

I sent her carb to Mechanizer to reassemble. To get the TREs loose from the tierod, I had to heat the ends with a torch and cooked the left end. The right is ok. Started cleaning up the wheels and grooved a couple of the tires. I kept hitting pebbles stuck in the treads and am out of blades.

The tierod is narrowed from an fj62 and the drag link is 40-62 links grafted together. Both links have a weld spud inside with rosette and seam welds. No strength issues.

Thanks Guppie. After a couple weeks of therapy, a new neurologist and improved pain meds, she is finally starting to have less severe headaches. She was hurt before Christmas.

I'm still picking away at the truck. I blasted and primed the third wheel and have the steering parts ready to assemble. I had to order more knives for my tire groover. The middle lugs on those old Coopers had a lot of pebbles that kill my blades.

CC just graduated yesterday. I'm back to working on her truck, but now for me to drive. The original carb didn't work out so I borrowed one from my son's 69 project. It's one of those special ones only made for 6 months of 69.

When I started the project, I had sprayed a bunch of Sea Foam Deep Creep and an ounce of Marvel Mystery oil in each jug. Now that I've installed an HEI dizzy and trying to get some action, the oil wasn't my friend. I'm currently letting the battery charge, recharge and recharge again as I do a bit of ether and turn it over. I'm starting to burn out the oil and get a bit of firing from the engine. It's the first action this thing has seen for a very long time.

So while attending mandatory family weekend stuff, I've managed to finish rebuilding and assembling the clutch master, slave and hard line. Now the half new brakes and clutch work. I just have to get the dizzy timing straightened out. A 12" hard line from NAPA with a couple of well placed hand bends slipped right in.

CC update: she worked really hard to get into SAIC in Chicago - and then couldn't afford to go even with a giant scholarship that would cover 1/3rd of her costs. SAIC is the 2nd highest rated art school in the U.S. She's taking a "gap year" to work and figure things out. As much as we wanted to help, we can't. She's considering the Air Guard as a backup plan.
