I drained the super old oil today and the drain plug gasket broke. I cut out a new gasket from 1/16" red silicone sheet that followed me home from work once.

Should this work?

If you use that smear some oil on both sides like you do on an oil filter gasket. I make my own out of the fiber gasket material found at the auto parts place. Don't over tighten while using the rubber stuff.

CC update: she worked really hard to get into SAIC in Chicago - and then couldn't afford to go even with a giant scholarship that would cover 1/3rd of her costs. SAIC is the 2nd highest rated art school in the U.S. She's taking a "gap year" to work and figure things out. As much as we wanted to help, we can't. She's considering the Air Guard as a backup plan.

The gap year idea is a smart idea. My sister went to SAIC... worked very hard to get there. She had some scholarships and also really couldn't afford to go but took loans and went anyway.

She'd tell you straight up it was a bad decision. She loved the school and the education, it really is top notch. But even with faculty supporting her and published work she's not been able to get a "return on investment". She's got massive student debt to show for it. My sister is very responsible. She's stayed working at whatever she can find since graduating, overpaying on her loans and also doing lots of self-promotion of her art and building her portfolio. But that student debt is a crippling weight on her at this point (hence she's overpaying).

Sadly I think that college in America for anything other than STEM is so overpriced that's its not a sound decision. If your daughter is passionate about art she can spend the next 4 years busting her ass becoming really good at what she is passionate about and probably come out ahead.

And keep dragging her into the FJ40 work. Sounds like it was netting some quality father/daughter time.
