That's actually a great question!! I think if it were supposed to ride on the inside of the V belt it would be shaped in a V... not sure though.

I wonder if your AC belt is not the correct size?

I'd include a picture of where mine was located but the belt is off as is the tensioner.... maybe someone else has an image handy??

When you put your VIN in here, does it show it's "availible"? Lookup Safety Recalls & Service Campaigns - https://www.toyota.com/recall

The reason I ask is because Toyota of Kirkland spun me in circles for 3 months. Toyota Corprorate was able to get them pointed in the right direction and get parts ordered.
Sorry to hijack your thread for this gas tank recall again 😂 How did you get this process kicked off properly? Did you call the Toyota corporate number and wait for them to get back to you, and then they worked it out with Toyota of Kirkland? My VIN is listed on the Toyota recalls website as needing the gas tank recall and having it available, so I figure I can get this done with enough patience.

I'm pretty sure I put myself behind on work today reading through your thread! I don't own a 60 (yet) but I'd imagine this is exactly what ownership should look like. Great blend of technical and adventure. Sure did enjoy it! Thanks!

No dude, you're not hijacking it at all, that's what this is all about. Here are the steps I followed which landed me in the correct path, eventually.

1) call the 1-800 Toyota number and talk with a representative about your FJ60, they'll look it up and you'll end up with a case number at the end of that call.
2) wait
3) wait a bit longer
4) keep waiting, you'll get a call, just wait for it....
5) Toyota calls and asks you what you'd like to do. I let them know I'm okay with the seatbelt recalls not being done but I want the gas tank replaced under the recall.
6) The Toyota rep calls around to Toyota dealerships and asks which one wants to do the work. I was lucky and my local dealership agreed.
7) Wait
8) That dealership ordered parts but they are being shipped on the back of a snail... so get used to waiting. I've still not heard back from the dealership that they have the parts.
9) The Toyota representative will call a few times to check in on you.... parts still haven't arrived so you pretty much just get really dang good at waiting.
10) here's where I am, so instead of waiting I decided to take my rig a part, my guess is that before I get it back together, I'll get a call that the parts have arrived.

Best of luck, let me know how it all plays out.

That's awesome man! Go get yourself a 60!! Or even an 80, those are rad too!

I'm happy you enjoyed the read. It is a great little adventure rig and I feel like nothing but tech is maybe not as entertaining. A mixture is good!

Thanks Adam!! Looking forward to starting step #1 tomorrow. 😂

Body removal day!

Like @LazarusTaxa, I used an engine hoist. It was easy and took a few test pulls to get right but it's done and I didn't get hurt, so there's that. :)

Removing the tires and lowering the chassis on to vehicle dollies helped keep the lift of the body to a minimum.

Interesting, I put in my Vin and it shows no open safety recalls. I have all the records on my truck from new, but don't see this work having been done. I'll have to call the PO (my dad) to see if he remembers this work.

Ahhh actually hang tight, I don't think this is a picture of a Land Cruiser.... there's no rust except for on those floor jack wheels, there isn't any oil dripping anywhere and the shop floor is way too clean.

This 70's version of Ron Swanson guy below calls BS... nice try Cruiser Cult!!

In reality, the above picture of that manly man with 4 fishing poles who does look remarkably like Ron Swanson is my favorite advertisement picture of a Land Cruiser ever. I want to find this dude, pour a couple of glasses of whiskey and then slowly discover enough about his life to learn where he bought possibly the most bad ass hat ever worn!

Here's a more likely picture....

This is a known genuine Toyota picture... you can tell by the rust & filth, the leaking power steering pump, carb missing... probably enroute to Jim C. Carefully removed lower radiator hose and if you look hard enough you can see a dirty shop towel on the ground.

The idler pully is in fact below the belt. ;)

Great thread, wish I had the time to read all of it.

There’s a goodie box headed your way with shiny bits inside.
