Mounting straps are not manufactured anymore and Im struggling to find them.

part numbers are
7760160140
7760260050

any suggestions where I could source them? Or could someone take dimensions off theirs to manufacture custom ones.

If you don't mind second hand, there are plenty on wrecks in Australia. Sub tanks are very common here. If you were interested in going this route, maybe give "All Four x 4 Spares" a try?
I can't personally vouch for them, but I've heard good things. Most wreckers here are stuck in the stone age, but these guys have a decent web presence with an easy way for you to contact, and they advertise overseas shipping, so they're worth a shot. Send an enquiry and see what they say. If they don't have in what you're after, it's worth asking the question if they can source it for you from another wrecker.

I'll warn you that the Aussie dollar is high right now though, and 80 series vehicles/parts have gotten more expensive here than they have so far in the US. No idea what their price will be, or what price you'd be expecting, just preparing you in case it's higher than you might think.

Dude,

I'm not sure where you're living now but the straps are easy to make using 1.5" wide x 1/16" thick steel or 1.5" x 1/8" thick alum material. That's all the factory straps really are with some kind of a composite sheathing to prevent metal on metal chaffing.

I have a set yet to be installed, waiting for other mud members in Florida and serious about teaming up to fab these up and help mud guys out. What do I know? I’m just a crazy guy right ?

I believe the straps also have hinges, dont they?
Interesting if the 105 series sub fuel tank straps would fit the 80 series.

77603-60030 and 77604-60030

Yes, you're correct, they do have hinges, which would make it easier to install. I just took a peek at my straps!

This is what I have been offered atm. I understand that the truck is 26years old, but man these look rusty. With not so many options around, I think I'm going to take them, and see if I can manufacture new ones if necessary and have these as a "sample".

In the end I was able to find used straps. The ones you show seem to be for the 100 series, but you say they fit without any issues? Thats good to know, thanks.

Hey guys,

Does anyone know if the Lexus GX 470 that was sold in North America had the second sub tank fitted as standard?

Just it’s another option for those looking at fitting a sub tank. Provided you move the spare wheel to a rear tyre carrier it’s probably a better option than trying to source an 80 series sub tank.

note: it’s not a direct bolt in and requires fabrication of a bracket, but gives you 95L of capacity vs the 55L of the standard 80 sub tank

No subs on any US-Spec Cruiser/LX/GX

Presumably due to the exploding pinto regulations :hmm:

That and a fuel station on every corner :)

cheers,
george.

Ah, fair enough.
Well my recommendation for anyone buying a tank from Australia would be to get the rear sub tank from a 90 or 120 series Prado. I did the conversion last week (I might do a write up) and it’s relatively straight forward and gives more usable capacity.
That said, the shipping cost probably makes it too expensive and cheaper to just buy a long range tank locally.

Yes, please post up a write up….I have a 100 series sub tank I’m planning on installing very soon

Not near the maze district or jarbidge NV!! Death Valley..... there are still a few places that would be nice.

However, a very wise traveler once said to our group (with a sub tank full of fuel), I can only go as far as the first guy in the group that runs out of gas....

I was likely one of the first in the US to install a subtank in an 80. Yes, always nice to have more fuel. That's why I've had a subtank in mine for 20+ years :) Especially with the fuel guzzling motor we're mostly stuck with here in the US.

I miss not have my diesel patrol over here with 750 mile range before I even think about loading up some jerry cans (then I can stretch to 1200 miles). And that range is fully loaded up with gear and driving along tracks. Of course the patrol would never be able to get to freeway speeds over here :zilla:

But most of the places in the US you can plan to get to a fuel station, even if it limits random exploring. That and I assume the pinto issue would be the reasoning for Toyota to not fit the subtanks standard in the US models. This versus being in a country that to reach many places means you've gone beyond the point to get somewhere to refuel (at least in a petrol cruiser) :)

And the wise traveler is indeed wise :)

cheers,
george.

Test fitted the tank and marked where the main filler pipe needed to be cut with the new filler neck. I had an used dual filler neck with slightly angled outputs but from my research a filler neck with 90° outputs yielded more capacity. This is were the budget install went out of budget when I purchased a brand new filler neck, O well

Cutting the main tank filler tube is a little scary with the strong smell of gas when you first cut through the filler pipe. Figuring I have done a lot of stupid things in the past and here to tell the story Im good for another. Each tank gets it own filler and vent that line up nicely. The fit is very tight but rock solid with everything clamped together.
Hello Phil,
can you advice me what fuel hoses should be connected to the dual filler neck? I an installing my sub tank as well but it seems that the filler neck has a diameter of 42.6mm which is an odd size? Did you use the original Toyota fuel hose and if yes what is the part number?
Thanks!
Gilles

Just replaced mine. Don't have the PN's handy but they are basically the same as the US. I did have to trim the fill hose. I think, not sure, there's an FAQ that has the part numbers.
