Seeing as it is not available, anywhere that I have looked, has anyone thought of just using the felt strip from the inside top on the outside also?

It is available, and not that expensive.

That strip originally came in two pieces. I ended up with a NOS right (passenger) half in a stash of parts I bought. Don't know if a CAD guru could mirror it and we could end up with a template of both sides to reproduce. I think the sustitute felt/rubber piece was mentioned recently in the weatherstrip thread.

Take a look at old 4-runners in the junkyard. Some had a movable tailgate window with similar (though longer, IIRC) rubber...

I'm sure that rubber is still available.. My buddy has a mini-truck/4runner graveyard as he strips them for parts, so i'm going to see if that piece might actually work.. I've been cut by the sharp dried out chunks of rubber jutting out of my pig's tailgate!

Just went to Desert Toyota, and the parts girl was very helpful and fairly knowledgeable.

She order one from an 88 4-runner for me and said it should be in by tomorrow.

I'll see if I can make it work this weekend.

I hope it works out, remember to take pictures.

Sweet...

It's here. Upper FJ55 Tailgate Rubber. - SLOCRUISERS

I have this on my '55 and it's not bad. There is a little cracking in the rubber at the ends where it has a special shape after being on the truck for 3 or so years in the sun.

What's the cost on this piece?

$47 with tax. I got the call that it is in. I will pick it up tomorrow and see what I can do with it this weekend.

The beauty of mini-truck gear.. It's cheap and found at any junkyard.. $280 for a weather strip? You're F'ing kidding me.

You learn quickly grasshopper...

The part came in today. I think it will work. It comes with plastic clips that won't work with the pig, but they slide right off. And the piece is longer than the pig's width but that is why they make razor blades. I will start taking pictures tomorrow of the work in progress.

Again, thanks to Pighead for the hint.

You're lucky. I've seen weatherstrip for the '60 OEM currently available at that time for well over $270 for a simple piece.

Looking forward to pics of this!
