I have never seen an exterior light on a hardtop but someone recently posted a picture of a 40 in their local dealership with one and the same one is on this 1980 that sold a while back at a Pebble Beach auction. Can someone shed some "light" on it?

No clue. I scabbed in an old yellow fog light on the back of my 72 above the 4wd emblem. On a separate switch - very handy when unloading in the dark, setting up camp etc. Doesn't destroy your night vision.

YES! I zoomed in and see that it IS a vent, not a light. So those were just on Canadian models? If so, why and in what model years? Thanks! Inquiring minds...

I know the BJ/FJ series both had them starting 4/78. Sure any other vehicle imported in to Canada had a vent relief in the back. 60 series have them in most markets. Used to help most moist air out of the cab in cold climates to prevent fogging and icing on the inside of the windows.
