Need electrical help

Guys,
Been busy w/ real work, haven't had time to work on my junk lately.:crybaby:
But, I am back working on the tank dealio now.

We've got the Ford sending unit and fuel pickup. The pickup tube will be cut off and extended inside the tank to reach the bottom. I have got the toy sender here in my hands and it is spot welded to the inside of the mounting plate. Removing it intact is gonna be difficult, and re-attaching it to the ford plate or pickup tube is gonna be impossible without welding. Again, this is a no-weld project.

So, why not use the Ford sender? Well, it doesn't have the same ohm range as the stock sender.

Ford= 10 ohm- 70 ohm
Toy= 20 ohm- 120 ohm

Here's my question for the more edumacated folks out there:
Is there any way to stack a couple resistors, maybe one parallel & one series, to make the 10-70 ford sender act like the 20-120 Toy sender?
The important thing is to have the sender hit 120 when the arm is on the bottom of the tank. The 20 value is not as critical in my mind, I just want the gage to show E when the tank is E.

Get back to me with your answers and we will move forward from there.

BTW, I have struck out on getting the intank fuel hose.
the one online vendor that listed it for a very reasonable price has not returned emails or phone calls.
Carquest says they can get it. Maybe. for $30 for a couple feet.
Napa, Jeg's, Summit; all got nothing.

So I am not gonna do a sexy klunk pickup. The ford pickup tube will be extended to place the filter sock right on the bottom of the little sump.

FJ40Jim,

I know you can get intank fuel line for under $4.00/ft. from Orme Brothers (performance hose Co.) the toll free # is 1-877-676-3277 they are in Northridge CA. I have used them for all kinds of hoses and fittings for every type of car and truck I have. Jim is the guy with all the info there.

I am not affiliated with them just a very satisfied customer.

If you go B100 or Veggie oil this is my tank design

I have yet to complete my transformation for a total WVO veggie kit system on my diesel. I need to build the tanks and thay need to reside inside the truck. Here is my design.

http://members.shaw.ca/glyfx3d/tank.jpg

Now this would be made of a fiberglass. If it was aluminum then those channels you see in the tank would be removed and tabs would be installed and bolted to the body. My problem is cost of labor and aluminum up here in bc are expensive and had quotes of 500-1000 dollars CDN. The area where its cut off is where the transfer pump and 30 micron filter are mounted. I have measured over and over again to make sure everything fits. The cuve is the wheel well area of the tank

Thay will be inside for reasons that the tanks need to stay hot if running wvo. If the tanks were external thay will be to cool and the IP even with a assited electric pump may not be able to suck the fluid enough because its to thick from the cold weather. This tank is 14 gallons. Two would make it 28 gallons. So 28 gallons + 25 gallons is ALOT of fuel :) I would love to get hired by a welding shop and then on the side do these tanks. I am sure there is a market for them if thay only contain veggie oil.

Hey Harvy, Very similar to my idea for the tanks, except I have tool boxes that you use for side saddle in a pick up box. I am going to modify them to fit over each wheel well. Then make a lid in the top for transmitter as well seal it up.

although this would not work for carry diesel or gas, as I would not have either inside. Just veggie oil.

I can understand not wanting gasoline inside your vehicle, but why exactly don't you want diesel inside? If you're worried about fumes and the tank possibly leaking, that's understandable (but could be remedied).

No you could put it in. But would need external venting. The smell of diesel can be quite sickening after a while. Not as dangerous as sniffing gas, more nauseating..

Veg oil would not fume the same. Although old oil isn't exactly a beautiful smell either.

Brown bear or anyone, long term effect of wvo on IP

I was at a diesel performance shop in port kells and one of there techs recomended that I do not use wvo as a fuel because it cakes up the Injector pump something bad. Any one heard of this and if that person did the right install?

Brownbear, know of anyone that can weld a tank cheaply? Even aluminized steel is a option. It cannot be galvonized because zink flakes off in the pressents of fuel.

harvy, post over on the diesel section about the wvo. I don't think its a problem, But I haven't run it. as far as welding, again post the design of your wvo tank in a thread over there asking the IP question; some knowledgeable dudes there. Also BC guys might know where to get something welded up.

bump to the top...I am driving my truck again and need more fuel storage...plus a gas gauge that works...

The tank is ready to go into the truck. There has not been much progress on the tank into truck aspect recently. Other junk seems to have taken up long term residence in the shop, preventing the project FJ60 from getting inside to receive the tank transplant, as well as the Ironman suspension transplant (from the old brown 60, RIP).

Jim,

Thanks again for taking on this project and keep up the great work....I really appreciate both...I was just wondering how it all was going..

Thanks Tim

Jim,
I'll have to take a look at the name of the catolog but a friends hot rod catolog had tons of stuff for customs gas tanks, never would have though to look in the hot rod catolog for my 4x4. I'll post the name of it soon. But it had sending units of varies ohms and many sizes of preformed rubber filler necks.

New year bump. Jim, any news? Sure would like to do my big tank before Rubithon.

I had forgotten about this....Been so busy with other truck issues and household projects....Jim any news???
