Just had a local muffler shop install new exhaust pipe/muffler on my ‘78 FJ40. They ran the exhaust pipe below the rock guard and lower than the frame rail. Pretty sure that’s how the old one was too, but looks strange. Is this right?

Thanks. That is how the stock exhaust runs.
And yet easily "corrected".View attachment 3463536
Slider. Is that exhaust exhaust I see or sliders. If exhaust do you have more pictures? 1/79 Toyota changed routing. US and markets with a CAT it took a couple years get the first section right. Second second on was above the frame and away from the transmission and transfer case.
Agreed. Wacky design. This is a 10/75 76 model with 4,500 original miles. Exhaust is original. Few connectors were different but routing is the same as a 78. It was actually hung a little lower. Not one of Toyota's better designs.
