The lights apprear much brighter than they really are (I'm not good with cameras:doh: )

I'm hoping that I would be able to snap similar pics with the Euro lights installed, just to see what kind of difference it would make (or not).

Anyway... I know nobody asked me to do this. I just had nothing better to do. :D

Cool write up and pics mot.

My 90 model OZ HZJ80 came standard with the little square sealed beams. A Zippo Lighter would put out more light. I went to the local wrecking yard and bought 4 Nissan Urvan headlights for $15ea. I fitted them with some Narva Plus 50 bulbs. The outers were H4 12V60/55W and the inners H1(?) 12V100W. Huge improvement over stock. I know the small rectangular lights don't have the best lenses or reflectors but I prefer them to the larger lights as I do a lot of dirt road driving and would rather replace one small cheap light than one big expensive light if one was hit by a rock. Plus I think they have a smaller target area than the bigger lights.

Thanks, Mick!

OK, I wasn't going to put in the Euro lights if nobody posted after I did yesterday. But since Mick posted I've decided to do it, just for him. ;p :D

So it was pretty straight forward to replace the JDM lights, except some of the screw tabs and stuff for the grill didn't match up, as well as needing to put the screw-holding part of/for the corner markers into the Euro lights.

Since this was just a temporal thing I didn't bother with swapping the headlight squirters, either. Neither did I install the leveling harness.

Enough with the foreplay....

Pic 1: Had to break down and buy a pair of H1 bulbs for the highbeams.
I had to stand in front of all the light displays and had to torture myself trying to decide between the 4400 Kelvin ones or the 3900 ones. I had, however, decided already to go with CATZ (Don't ask me why, but their packaging, their HP, and their 1 yr warranty always sat well with me;) ) I went with the 3900 Kelvin bulbs since it was whiter (less blue) and thought it would match the H4's I already had.

I usually wear contact lenses, but today I had my glasses on, which made it a little difficult for drawing a fair comparison/conclusion.

Although the lows seemed fairly similar in illumination/performance the highs seemed a fair bit brighter/further/wider with the Euro lights.

To tell you the truth, I ran down to a near-by department store to get some pastries tonight and it was lighting it up (with high beams) the road and the surrounding area better than the JDM set-up. But again, maybe I "wanted" it to be better.

I was going to put the JDM lights back on/in tomorrow, but will wait another day and see the lights without my glasses (with contacts).

Anyway, just an FYI and FWIW.

P.S. I'll post the direct comparison pics:

Pic 32: Euro highs (Maybe I should have raised them a little higher, but the Euro lights appear to have a little more "Ooomph", maybe)

JDM lows look better, at least to me, here. The Euro H4 housing has a metal cover/shade inside that supposedly reflects the light back to the reflector which the JDM lights do not have, which robs the Euro lights of some lumens.   ) Again, I could/should have aimed the Euro lights a little higher to make it a fairer comparison.

Pic 36: Euro highs (I'll definitely have to aim them higher as you can see the difference between them where the JDM's are hitting the guardrail dead-on, the Euro's are lighting the ground, about half-way down the gravel road.)

My wife is asking me if all this is necessary, especially at 1:35 in the morning.:crybaby:

I'm gonna hit the hay! ;p

Good night!
