Additional pics.

The third pic illustrates the light at the lowest level and the highest level (It would look different depends on where your original mounting aim/illumination point is).

Again, this was mounted on the RHD rig (opposite lense cut/lighting pattern)

Bastard, you finally found something I want!!!!!

Be very careful running overwatt bulbs in these lamps. Generally overwatt bulbs should only be used in metal housings. Here are the high output bulb specs from Stern's site.

H4 OVERWATT 100/90 2600/1620 Not in plastic lamps!
H4 OVERWATT 130/100 3550/2000 Not in plastic lamps!

Ditto - very nice.

I'd echo Cary's caution on the oversize bulbs. I little upgrade is nice, but too much and suddenly everyone's flashing you on low beam and next thing you know you're getting pulled over and a Sheriff with a flashlight is looking underhood. Or, you melt the plastic housings. They're simply not made for those big bulbs like a big Hella aftermarket light is (all glass/metal).

So the motors to move the lamps are integrated into yours??

DougM

PS - anyone getting these should buy my 3M self adhesive headlamp protection kit. I'll do the group buy price. Dunno where the thread is on that.

The chain-link fence is the perfect background for headlight pictures. Excellent work!

My Subaru has a headlight adjuster like that. It's fun.

So how hard is it to install the adjuster? I'm assuming the harness isn't there to make it easy.

Mot--good find amigo. Any chance of a unit for the superior 1994 FZJ80:D

Cary,

You can get my Hella FF1000 HID driving lights together with these headlights, while you are at it! :flipoff2:

Cary/Doug,
Thanks for the warning about the high-wattage bulbs. I'll be careful when I get them installed (when Hell freezes over:rolleyes: ).

Doug,

Not sure what I'm looking for, but I'll post a few more pics of the close-ups of the suspected area below. (Don't hold your breath)

I can't take credit for it as the parts guy just forwarded his pics. ;)

I've taken a pic of the level adjusting thingy. I'm an idiot when it comes to stuff like this, but to my extremely untrained eyes it looks like you'll have to make your own harness.

Jason,

Just like that little train said: "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!" :grinpimp: But need to confirm.

After all of this, it'll probably be pointed out by someone here that it won't work with the US-spec 80. Just my luck! :crybaby:

I haven't done any scanning with my (not so new now) computer, but I'll try to do that of the direction it came with (electrical wiring thingy info)

Sweet! E-codes are vastly superior to the US DOT approved crap we get over here (though nowadays it seems E-codes are OK?). I've done several of these conversions on Mercedes over the years and they are 100% worth the supposed high cost. Mot, any chance of a group purchase? I am in all the way for a set. IMHO, this would be one of the BEST mods to do on an 80.

Does the Toyota headlamp level adjuster use an electric motor? On Mercedes cars (at least the cars from the 80s and 90s) it was a totally mechanical adjuster run off the car's vacuum system. The only power was to illuminate the actual graphics on the adjuster switch when the headlights were on.

Especially for the way most of us load up our 80s for trips, this would be a great feature to have.

I'll find out what kind (if any) break I can get from buying more than 1 set at a time.

That's what I would guess. I can ask about that as well, to confirm, if the pics I've provided do not make that clear (probably doesn't).

I've scanned the wiring scheme(?) and will attempt to label them verbally (sort of)...

Pic1: The entire (:D ) document on wiring.

Pic4: Wiring Diagram

The vertical rectangular box on the left says "Leveling Switch"
The vertical rectangular box on the right says "Headlight(s)"

The words with "+" between two "GND" at the bottom says "Illumination +".

Pic5: Summary(?) of the wiring diagram

The horizontal rectangular box on the left says "Left Headlight"
The horizontal rectangular box on the right says "Right Headlight"
The horizontal rectangular box at the bottom says "Leveling Switch"

The other word (not "GND") says "Illumination"

Pic6: Electric Circuit

The column on the left says "Switch Positions" ("0","1","2","3","4","5")
The four Chinese (Kanji) characters indicate the terminal numbers (4,5,6,7,8,9,10)
The characters on the far right (above "2" and "3") says "Illumination"

Any comments as to the difficulty of this installation/description???

Sorry for sounding so retarded.

I just heard back from the parts guy and he told me that he was drunk:D , but also told me of these bulk purchase prices:

1 set: $670
2 sets: $650
3 sets: $640
4 sets: $630
5 sets: $620 (plus shipping)

Yeah, I know, for something that's not quite plug-and-play, it might be too much of a hassle for most people.

If I got REALLY bored, I might put the lights in sometime, but will have to be w/o the level-adjusting thingy installed/working. :D

Anyway...

Under that group discount, if we can get 67 orders, all we will have to pay is shipping!!! :D

...and these are for RH drive vehicles (with matching light patterns) correct?

If they are European (and not UK), then they are left hand drive (like the U.S.). Light pattern should tip up and to the right to illuminate road signs and pedestrians.

I'm struggling to spot the difference between US and Euro spec...

You could have gone an extra step and ordered the euro side lights, that sit beside the headlamps.. These are clear lensed, not amber, and cost £25 each.

All Euro cars get the level adjustment.

Cary/John,

With 72 orders or more, I'll throw in free shipping and a can of Asahi! :flipoff2:

rolliges,

They are for the LHD vehicles (US-spec: driver on the left side, driving on the right-hand-side of the road).

TLC42TD,

Not sure if this is what you were wondering, but the US 80's didn't come with the outer H4 low/high beams and the inner H1 high beams. Instead, got the HB3/4(?) lights which do not offer very much upgrade bulb options (HIR is the only good one we've found so far). Not sure if the lense texture/cut is any different, but the E-Code seems superior to the DOT as well.

Anyway, HTH's.
