Ok, so the bulbs are different... thanks... this reminds me, my sister and her North American husband and I were night driving in the UK recently, and they commented on how bright my TLCs headlamps were on high-beam, and were very fascinated by level control. Getting off-topic here, but in the USA, he drives a Dodge pickup with large 6cyl turbo diesel (6.5 litres ??), and couldn't believe how smooth the cruiser's diesel is. He thought it was a petrol version before i told him it is diesel.. Well, i dont think it's as smooth as some other diesels. We sampled the new Merc R class diesel last weekend and that was very turbine-like.

Wait, so these are not the inner fog lights? So on high beams, BOTH the outter and inner lights turn on?......If so SWEET!

The inner ones are the high beams.
The outer H4 will flip/switch from low beams to high beams and the inner H1 will turn on when you turn your highbeams on.

Mot :)

If they are European (and not UK), then they are left hand drive (like the U.S.). Light pattern should tip up and to the right to illuminate road signs and pedestrians.

I could be wrong, but I think the light pattern is determined by the glass, not that it would help. The glass is fixed to the whole and not replaceable as far as I can see.

I love the idea of a level control. I can never seem to adjust mine to satisfaction.

Yes, that is correct. Light pattern is straight across, and then angles up and to the right as you get to the right side of the pattern. Also has a sharper cut-off than US DOT. DOT patterns purposely include a hazy illumination straight up to hit road signs sitting directly on top of the road, like on overpasses as you go under them on the freeway, but it's hazy so you don't dazzle oncoming traffic. In practice, even on US roads, IMHO, the E-codes are far superior.

did you recabeated your lights to use 100/90 .. ?

Sorry but I'm not sure what "recabeated" means.

"Recabled", "recalibrated", "change harness"???

ANYWAY....
You know I couldn't let this thread die just yet! :D

Just for the fun of it, I took off/out one of the headlights to see what it would actually involve to take it out and put the Euro lights in (which I didn't get to).

Post padding warning!!!

Pic1: I was told that I should remove the grille, front blinkers, and corner markers should be removed prior to removing the headlights (first disconnect the battery which I did not do:doh: )

Pic4: What's left of it after taking out the headlight. The black socket on the left is for the H4 high/low and the white one hanging down ont he right is for the H3 fog.

Pic 16: As per instruction I did indeed find another socket hiding alongside the H3 fog socket/harness, for the H1 high beam (also used for the square, quad headlight conversion) Do you guys have them two harness/sockets in the US-spec 80?
