Long overdue for a little update. Swap is 60k (miles) in at this point. Time to do the timing belt and all the tensioners

While in there, I found that the alternator mount had sheared off. Replacement is on order

Upgraded the factory horns to Hella. They were a direct bolt in and the wiring harness plugs right in also. HUGE difference in how loud the horn is

Open up that crossover pipe… I bet you will find it is completely full of sludge. Running the factory valve cover breather into the air canister makes for a bad time.
It’s clean actually, a little bit of oil is it. It WAS filthy when it came from the UK but I blasted and cooked it all out

Horns. These are 12v but my guess is that a 24v version probably exists

Rear brakes. I’ve never touched them, no clue about how many miles are on them. A lot I suspect

So it looks like you rebuilt the calipers yes? Nice work on the rear. Forgive me if I missed it but when you were doing the engine rebuild, did you replace the head gasket?
Yeah, I'm currently rebuilding the calipers. I figure that me doing it with OEM parts is better than anything I can get remanufactured at a chain store.

On the build, I actually didn't change the head gasket although I do have a gasket on hand just in case. I swapped out all the head bolts though, because the exterior ones were so friggin' corroded it was scary. I had to weld a nut to one just to break it loose. Took one out at a time, replaced with new and re-torqued to spec. It was a chance but I haven't had any problems.

I recall the nut incident now. Yeah you had a fair amount salt exposure if i remember.
Crank pulley was impressive 😉 Is that why you replacedb the water bypass and coolant piping too?

How is the duplicolor holding up? Really like the silver gray you used for the valve cover.

Yeah, all that water bypass piping was fairly inexpensive, essentially cheap insurance. Between external corrosion and the coolant passages being pretty gross I didn't want to risk it. I don't know what the FT did in the UK before I got it but it was definitely getting some nice salt air.

The Duplicolor holds up really well. Assuming that you clean and prep stuff really well; basically clean it to within an inch of it's life. I blast most stuff if I can get away with it and get it REALLY clean. The paint 60k in looks about the same as the day I did it.

its the EGR that causes the build up of sludge and gunk. the PCV pipe running into the intake only causes a pretty irrelevant light misting of oil.

EGR is deleted for me and I'd concur. There was a TON of buildup when I first got it from the UK

they are all the same. ive seen close to 3/4" of crap on higher mileage engines with EGR. every uk 1hdft came with EGR. some aus and JDM engines dont have it.

ive never seen a 1HDT uk engine with EGR. even the higher mileage engines only have the light coating of oil in the cross over pipe and inlet manifold.

Calipers are done, minus pads at this point

Might be hard to tell but the truck came up 2.25” with OME heavy springs and 30mm spacers. The old springs with over 300k were TIRED. Especially with the bumpers, sliders, winch and swing out
