Gents-

One item that I have been reviewing as of late is the need for a mini-prybar and not onw that you pick up at one of the big box stores. Please weigh in on this as a needed item that saves you from jacking up you knife and helps in a bind. What are you guys carrying daily?

for a prybar how about replacing the scale of a pocket knife with a piece of steel. I've done that with an emerson super 7 before when i was bored.
You can buy some seriously over priced mini prybars made by knife manufactures, but its too simple a device to pay more than $10 for.
Now i just carry a crkt first strike to pry with. Not the best option, but it'll absorb some prybar abuse.

and for lights i carry on person a microlight on the keychain and most jacket zipperpulls and some kind of surefire light.
in the vehicle i'll have a surefire 10x Dominator which is a 60/500 lumen rechargable light. Also a Brunton led headlamp that runs off of 4xAA and has a Ccell battery pack to extend light time to 40+hours. In a jacket pocket i'll usually have my surefire U2ultra. Dont forget extra batteries rotated regularly.

Maglights still work perfectly too.

Good avise as I really could no justify $20-30 for a mini pry bar, but like the option of not destoring my folding knife....although when push comes to shove I guess it really would not matter. For the sake of pracitical every day use I'll spend $10 on the mini prybar.....any suggestions? I have found a couple: Gerber, County Comm.

VanGo-

I am in the same situation as you with the pry bar. I was looking at the Gerber Shard or the Pico Widgy Bar from CountyComm. Think I am going to go with CountyComm, the Shard looked a little bulky, plus I already carry a Leatherman Micra. I would like to hear what other people have to say about this, too.

I just bought several items from CC and they were quick and friendly to deal with. I carry a small offset prybar that looks a lot like the pico widgy and it's made in the USA as well. I got it from the impulse buy rack at the local ACE hardware ($3.99). It's great. I use it at work for everything from opening electrical boxes to scraping gunk off a part. It is slightly bent and it's a perfect fit vertically in my coin pocket. With the slight bend it doesn't poke me when I sit down. Oh ya I got their(CC) AAA flash light and that also fits in my coin pocket. It's an awesome light, very bright and easy to carry all day. I use it in my work as well.

Senoj-

Good information.... this a "non-threatening" thread present what you find, let the individual sort it out. Good stuff. Personally, I am learning more and more with each new post.

On batteries. Almost all my hiking and trip electronics and flashlights take AA batteries and that is deliberate. I always keep a large stock of fresh ones on hand, and they are distributed around to where the electronics and flashlights are kept.

When I get a new box of batteries in I go and replace all the spare battery packs I keep in the trucks, tractors, camera bag, go bag, etc.. Those then come in and get used for powering the keyboard, mouse, house flashlights, weather station, etc..

For storing the batteries in easy to use small packs I use gaffers tape. 1" wide is perfect for 2 and 4 battery packs. I use 2" wide for 3, 4, and 8 battery packs. I wrap the tape end to end to cover both positive and negative terminals. Also I align all the positive terminals to one end to signify it is an unused battery set. When the batteries are used I alternate positives and negatives on the end. That way I can tell by touch if a set has been used. The gaffers tape comes off clean, plus it can be used in a pinch for whatever use.

interesting. Seems like it might be a bit ungainly.

CRKT makes some nice stuff. I have one of their small pocket knives my buddy and I found at the beach. It's pretty cool.

Sharpie pen.

This weekend I was in a position where I needed a pen, pencil/writing instrument, and you guessed it I was with out.... I am aware of most pen options and pens that double as a self defense item if needed, for me that would be overkill and not really needed. What I did find, and really like, is a Sharpie pen. It has really smooth action, well balanced vs. weight, permanent ink and for all intent and purpose it's stylish. I have added this to my daily carry and curious to what you guys carry.

Brief tech on the pen from Sharpie:

Retractable- Just click! The first fine point retractable Sharpie Pen!

A real man doesn't need all of this :censor:. This sounds like the pack of a spoiled brat.

A lot of it is volunteer work-related... if you couldn't tell.
