Craig,

I appreciate your point of you... carry less and know how to do more. This is where I am at with this thread and have tried to narrow down my ECD to the barest of essentials. If I can fit it in my wallet with out much fuss then it goes with me. Here is my update:

Flint
Condom
Ibuprofen
hack/knife
3M handsanitzer
bandaids
pictures of family
credit cards
ATM
cash
phone card
6" of 550 Paracord with internal cordage for fire tinder, etc....

This list may sound like a lot to carry, but it is well concealed in my wallet, this does not include my key chain, which has some duplicate items, just in case of seperation....
My knife is ALWAYS on me and I have a rountine (read OCD) of checking it for its location...

Devilman's hand,

I took your advise a few post back and picked up several small blue LED lights for my key chain- AWESOME difference in night assisted vision.....Thanks!

Van, I can see that you've got a well-considered EDC list there.

+1 on having some light - LED keychain lights are good.

Just on the paracord thing... The nylon inner strands aren't really all that good for tinder, but they are awesome as cordage. I don't carry my paracord, I wear it on my feet.

I used to have 6 feet of paracord on each boot as laces. I still do the same on my bush boots and hiking boots. If you need it, you can remove the 7 inner strands 7 x 6 feet = 42 feet for each boot making a grand total of about 83.5 feet of (knotted) nylon cord to play with (2 boots). The outer sheath can still be retained for use as boot laces.

Paracord comes in a range of colours from day glow orange to black, tan, olive drab and even white. Using it as boot laces is cheap insurance.

For carrying tinder in your wallet, I've got a couple of suggestions...

1. Clothes dryer lint in a small ziplock baggie

2. A trioxane bar in it's original foil packaging, wrapped in plastic and then taped up with electrical tape. Trioxane deteriorates on contact with air so it's important to wrap it. You've also then got a couple of feet of electrical tape to play with as well.

A nice way to carry 6' of para cord

My son borrowed my Land Cruiser to take to burning man this year while he was gone I had his car. He gave me his spare key loose, since I hate carrying loose keys I grabbed a split ring and made a para cord fob for it. I would guess I used around 6' of cord. I noticed the other day he is using that key fob every day now. :grinpimp:

Surefire E2DL
BM Doug Ritter Griptilian w/Wilkins G10 grips
Fisher Space Pen Cap-O-Matic

Perfect, and welcomed, solution to a quick grab situation, when you have got to run, everything is where you need it in a very rugged case. Great addition to help perfect these solutions....

Researching and putting together my EDC list....

I have been following this thread for awhile and doing some research. Currently I carry a Leatherman Surge and LED keychain light. Just got a SE magnesium fire starter and need to add more. Plan on adding a Boker Subcom F to use as a money clip as well. Also a key tool shackle set and an AA flashlight. Got more that I am looking into also.

Figure I would share a couple of sites I found that have stumbled across because of this thread. Not promoting them, just thought I would pass it on.

Pretty cool stuff.:D

i keep a go bag @ home and a small 72hr goodies box in my fj60. in my pocket every day is my case xx trapper, a led keychain light, mini bic, and a few silver coins.

This may be the trend: bag at home and a go bag in the rig, I concur with this logic. Now to stay focused with my work out plan....need to loose a few pounds to stay fit and prepared.

Guys, great thread. I'ts important to remember not to carry to much at one time. Only carry on your person what you can carry comfortably and securely. IMHO there are 3 levels of this; 1. what you carry on your person daily, 2. A go pack in your vehicle, 3. Larger go pack at the house. There are lots of forums out there on this subject the key is to put them together and keep them up to date and know where they are at any one given time. If you have family members to consider they too should know where and how to use the items (no matter what the item is) you have packed or carry on your person. My EDC is:

1. Glock 26 with spare magazine
2. SOG Trident with Tanto blade
3. Pen - Generally a Smith and Wesson tactical pen that can double as a weapon.
4. Flash light- Generally a Surefire
5. Some cash
6. Cell phone
7. ID's
8. A good watch

Black Op,

Good additional information as we who cruise venture into other interest this has become a great way to share with others what we do to plan and prepare for life's uncertainties- you broke it down very clearly. Good work!

I agree, those extra holiday pounds are something I'd like to remove from my daily carry.

This is all I carry on me (Benchmade AFO II). Of course the truck has lots of other fun stuff in it. ;)

Ed,

Texas must be flexible on knife carry rules? That is an auto, and in peoples republic of Illinios, unfortunately, it is illegal, unless you are authorized to carry and main the reason mine stays at the house- cough, cough.... Would love to know about the other stuff you carry in the rig, but I would reserve that for a PM! Thanks for your post.

We value our freedom here in Texas!!

(You do need a LE, Fire or military ID to get one though ;))

Well I have been carrying a multi tool since an Xgirlfriend give me one senior year of HS. Its been a Leatherman since Freshman year of college. So currently its been a surge and a Kershaw knife - but the knife has been misplaced. So when I find/replace that it will be Leatherman Surge, Kershaw folding blade, LED Lenser light (spare batt somehow), a pen & paper (again somehow), phone and keys to the LC. Have a few things in mind like getting a spec-ops wallet cause I new wallet and putting some of the suggestions in with; Question for all of you - Do any of you have a particular piece or pieces of clothing you wear to carry all this stuff that becomes important when needed ? I've been looking and found a site called scottevest.com that looks rather cool:banana:

I like the tadgear jackets when i'm out in the elements cause they're light, warm, and have lots of pockets. They're pricey, but worth it. Condor makes some good gear now too, but its all on backorder.

I like to dress in layers also.

keep some stuff in wallet, some stuff on keychain, some stuff clipped to pockets, gun inside waistband, more stuff in jacket, even more stuff in a bag, even more stuff in vehicle, etc...

just don't be that guy wearing a maxpedition tacticool purse/sachel walking around. Its the new fannypack.
