Absolutely, post your results when you get back. The reflective tape is more than enough. The sheet-metal is more than sufficient given it blocks the heat...but as our LC do, we need to overdue everything but just a little bit! :)

. Thanks Ive had this happen on my last trip West and going back out in a week, I’m going to duplicate your heat shield and hope the results are as good as yours were.. thanks for the idea and good pics. Edit: here’s my attempt at a heat shield, i used some heat reflective tape I had here, maybe not necessary but it can’t hurt . Sure hope I have the good results you did.

Sorry for the failure to follow up on the heat shield last fall, I had severe tank pressure earlier last year ona trip to Utah and when trying to fuel couldn’t get the tank to take fuel until I let the tank vent with the cap off for several minuites , this was before posting the above post #200
I took another 3500 mile trip west shortly after building the heat shield and suffered no unusual tank pressure or excessive vapor etc..and haven’t since then.
I have a good friend who was on the same trip who also had similar results after installing a heat shield between the cat and lines on his 98 Hundy. I’m leaving in a week for another run west and don’t anticipate any fuel issues
Hopefully this helps , and sure can’t hurt

Resurrecting this thread! I just finished reading page 1 to page 11 and learned a lot!.
had the same problem earlier. 112F here in the valley today.

This is the thread I posted:

Ran techstream and I got P0306 and P0308. Anyone with the similar sympton got the same error code?

Already preparing for Fuel Pump and Fuel Filter replacement (Top Priority) -sorry I got lost with which one is to use?

I picked up three part numbers from this thread:

- 23221-74110 or 23221-66040 or 23220-50160 which one to get???

To-date did it solve the stalling problems when it gets too hot? And where did you guys sourced it? Any link?

Surprised this only happens specific for 2006-2007 100 series and LX470s.

For me, yes to date it has fixed the problem. I changed a lot things but when I did a fuel pump it was immediately different in a good way. I bought it from an online place..... It was a Toyota dealership in Florida I think, the price was a little cheaper. BUT, I will only put a Toyota OEM pump in there. So price is what it is. As for the part number I cannot recall what the manual says. If you don't have the manuals buy them!

Got it @H E A V Y M E T A L thanks. Now all I need to figure out at this point is that correct fuel pump / fuel filter part number. Will wait for the answers of the gents that replaced theirs and solved the problem.

@H E A V Y M E T A L and all other mudders who have successfully resolved this issue:

is it just the “fuel pump” or the whole assembly (“sending unit”) that needs to be replaced? If so, do you by chance happen to have correct part number for an 06 LX470 VVTi engine? And possibly where to order. Thanks in advance

@slacker24-7 Did you just attach your heat shield with self tapping screws? I'm going add a shield before spending the coin on a fuel pump. I shut off a couple times last week but its been par for the 3 or 4 years I've owned my LX.

@OEMGUY0720 - just the pump. I just called and gave the parts guy my Vin and Toyota handed me a pump. Super easy change. Oh get the gasket where you open the access to the fuel tank as well.
@slacker24-7 - I am not a nah Sayer, the shield will help but you need to change that pump first. The pump has a vent return line that must be struggling or clogged or something. Which would explain why so much gas was venting out my gas cap and down the side of the vehicle. However, these problems are like snow flakes so you may be on to something. Report back to us.

I changed many things and the problem always came back. Now it never does it. Now I am ok with turning off my cruiser and I know it will start back up. Regardless, I support you brothers!

One more item I forgot to mention, my LC tends to get bad gas mileage. I usually at Rich around 12 miles per gallon, on long trips up to 12 1/2 to 13.
Lol, ive never gotten more than 14 and had 2 different engines in mine. Anyone who says they get more i often don't believe. Horrible on gas.

Also Spark Plug gaps are a great work around for pesky O2 sensor problems.

Very interesting. The problem seems to be unique to 2006 LC's.

the motor changed from 05 to 06. also, in 2006 the cats have o2 sensors built into them versus before and after the cats on the older models.

It seems like there are a lot of postings on this but I have yet to find a specific answer for this. Everyone says a new fuel pump helps but does not solve the problem.
Just happened to my 2007... fuel pump on a hot day

How much does the fuel pump go from the Toyota dealership?

Out of curiosity did any of you notice if replacing the fuel pump helped with the fuel smell and gargling associated with long drives and high temps ?

The pump price is not the big deal. It's taking your time and pulling the seats and plastic side panels and carpet WITHOUT breaking any plastic clips. That is where the manuals help and cold beer.

I’d replace the gas cap before I do anything else. I’ve got a thread here about similar stuff happening and it turns out my gas cap was bad. I was worried about the fuel pump and all kinds of things mentioned I t his thread. Crank your current gas cap on really hard - way past the one click to close to seal the system and see if it happens or just replace it and see if that fixes it. Hot weather seemed to exacerbate it. It’s a cheap fix and at least start with a cheap fix before worrying about the cats etc. once I replaced mine it’s been bullet proof (knock on wood) and good luck.

My experience on the stalling issue is the fuel pump replacement fixed it. I had previously done all the other items: plugs, PCV valve, fuel and air filters. Just the pump is available - go to a dealer because aftermarket suppliers will probably send you the wrong (older) pump. The 06 and 07 models have a newer pump. Previous posts have the part numbers.
I had discussed it amongst some gearheaded friends and the thinking is that in hot conditions where the fuel gets warmed as it cylcles through the engine compartment the pump cavitates and no fuel. Sitting for a while - 10, 15, 30 mins - lets you go again. This is not good. Happened twice on a trip last summer, once in heavy traffic.

Agreed. Fixed me solid. My neighbor is a master Tec at Lexus and the first thing he said before I even spoke is do not change the charcoal canister. He actually said fuel filter fuel pump first. Apparently a lot of people go to him to change it out I guess.

Well guys, my 06 LX seems to have this problem. Yesterday afternoon at 4:30 pm we stalled at Old Santa Fe Trail and Paseo de Peralta (big thanks to everyone who helped us push it out of the way!).
We had been driving all day, 5.5 hrs from Utah. 70’s temp. Premium major brand gas only, 1/2 tank at incident. Pulled into Santa Fe after long uphill on I25 @ 80 mph from Bernalillo. Driving in 25-45 mph city traffic for maybe 5-10 minutes. For just a few seconds before it died, engine ran really rough. After it died, in P or N it would crank strong, but no start, or else would catch briefly then die. Hard to tell everything going on with people honking at me (sorry if you were behind me!!) Started fine after 10 minutes or so.
As bad as the location was, all I could think was how much I appreciated it doing it there instead of the many hundreds of remote miles we had just covered over the previous week (Maze, Canyonlands NP and the lonely stretches of pavement getting there and back).
Lexus dealer today didn’t have any solution, glad I found this thread; have fuel pump and filter en route. Probably also will cover fuel line near the exhaust just to cover the bases, but at 223k, I reckon the pump is pooped.
