Back spacing on those newer wheels is too deep for a solid axle truck. They won't fit without a spacer. They might be OK on an ifs truck
This would be assuming one that had spacers or the front IFS wheel hub conversion that widened the front axle to use wheels with a different backspacing. I’ve seen examples using wheels from the 89-95 pickups but not many later than that.

Hey fellas, I always cruise the local craigslist and see newer toyota OEM wheels and tire packages up for sale.
They are mostly from people with newer trucks/SUVs that upgrade to bigger tires or aftermarket wheels.

Sometimes a stumble across a really nice set for a decent price, but wonder what they would look like on my older truck and if they were a direct fit or not.

I thought it would be a good FAQ thread to start up a gallery of older toyotas with newer updated OEM wheels.

Post up what you have on your rig, or have seen around town.
please include as much info as you can including year and model toyota the newer wheels came from and if you had to do anything special to bolt them up (ie. wheel spacers, or buy a different type of lug nuts, etc..)

I'll start with a couple favorites that i have found while cruising the net.

Do Hi-Steer arms have even worse Akerman? The OEM steering arms are bad enough.

These are 15x8, ~4"BS on OEM SA hubs with stock steering arms (RS mod'd for old school cross-over):

A 17" wheel *might* clear.......

wondering if anyone can offer clarification on these numbers. id sssumed, and general internet concensus is, the third number is offset.
however that doesn't jive.
the 6" is 3" to the face from the nut flange face, so is the 7". this number is closer than reference to offset/backpacing.

I always thought the 3rd number was the rim width

ok just to clarify.
the rims are 16x6 with the 0 mark
the other is 16x7 with the 15 mark. the last mark is my question.
a couple others.
the one even says OFFSET so....
ftr one of those is the common USA wheel. the one, im pretty sure, is j7x as well. i thought i saw a -10 too, but could be mistaken.

IIRC the third number is offset (difference from hub mount face to centerline of the wheel), but the wheel width is the inside of the lip where the tire mounts and it looks like you have your scale on the outside of the rim

fair, but my positioning doesn't explain 5/8" difference. the 0 wheel should be 3"+- and the other should be just over 4". my scale was under .25 from the rim outer edge.

Where is the wheel's mount surface relative to the inner face of either bead? For a zero offset, 6" wide wheel both of those numbers should be 3 inches, BUT while this should be an exact thing IME it doesn't appear to be so. It's just sort of generally close. Not sure why the variation. Maybe different mfg's consider different surfaces or point to be the relevant surface or point?

Howdy fellas, new to the group and read through this entire thread twice last night. A set of 15” 96 Tacoma wheels popped up for sale near me wrapped in nearly brand new 31x10.5r15 Goodyear Duratracs, and I’ve been trying to determine if these will work on my ‘88 pickup 4wd extra cab, IFS. It seems the bolt pattern and hub bore are compatible, but I’m uncertain if the backspacing will cause rubbing issues with a 10.5 wide tire. Can anyone confirm that these are good to go, or should I shop around for other options?
