So when I bought my 45swb, the dash and firewall were completely stripped out of it. And my blue lab had no heater in it. As I set about putting the swb together, it didn't seem quite right to me to use the heater tubes from the early 40, as they were the 'T' type with the fittings for the rear heater. I thought about cutting the side fittings off and having the holes brazed shut, but I didn't. So I ended up using the tubes from a later model 40 that didn't come with a rear heater. They were a little awkward to fit, but turned out alright.

So I've had the heater out of the swb for a few weeks now as I was overhauling the cooling system anyways, and refurb-ing the choke and throttle cables. So now I have the chance to change something, if I'm gonna change it.

So my question is, what do YOUR front heater brass tubes look like? Simple elbows, or 'T's?

I have what looks to be an unmolested firewall from another 45 with an interesting variation of the T setup that I'm inclined to think IS stock.

HOLY MOTHER OF MACKEREL!

I decided to pull these off of the cowl for a better look.

THE 'T's ARE RUBBER!!!!!

Maybe some of you knew this, but I for one did not.

What now?

The draincock is cool, and definitely looks like something I've seen on a cruiser before...just can't remember where. I guess I need to look at some old microfiche when I get to the shop.

Mark, here are a few photos of my 66 LPB. I believe it's original. I have attached a firewall photo and a footwell photo. I too had the little drain valve. It's was leaking so I changed it out with an aftermarket brass valve, works great.

I have also attached a photo showing two of the OEM valves that I took off of my 65 and 66 LPB. Both were leaking and there is NO fix that I am aware of. I think there is a rubber o ring or two inside, but no way to get to it. Hope this is useful.

My 65 is non heater model so do not have anything to add. Since my original engine was replaced with a 2F before I bought I going with a 78 cowl. For that I have original tubing that is only for a single heater, nothing needs to be plugged. Not even sure where I picked up but guessing of may be off a later pickup.:meh:

Thanks for the pics Mark. I'd be willing to toss an OE hose clamp in to replace the non-stock clamp in your engine bay.;)
