Does anyone know if a 1st gen 4runner rear window relay box is similar to the E locker relay box for the limit switches? I'm sure the harness plugs are different, I was just wandering if the rear window relay control box could be wired up and work the same.:hhmm:

Ultimately yes, but they are way over complicated, and I don't think they have a provision for stopping, so you could overshoot and jam the motor maybe... I'm controlling my E locker with a single double pole double throw switch. How I wired it is in one of the locker wiring threads... I also added a locked indicator light for fun...

I think the motor has limit switches.
I like the idea of not having to hold the switch to engage or disengage and I have a spare rear window relay box.

It's pretty cool, it's all negative switched, just like it ought to be, he's running a relay off the toggle to replace the "brain" that ran the stock momentary switch.

It looks like alot of spaghetti, but when you follow it one leg at a time, it becomes pretty self-explanatory.
Hypothetically, you could even build this as a bundle instead of a board, and skip the veroboard aspect of it, but it would make troubleshooting pretty difficult.

While I think some of the solutions posted in many places to control an e-locker are pretty cool ... I'm with Jerod. They are way over complicated. I run my 80-series rear e-locker (in the FJ40) with a DPDT switch as well. It's not a momentary switch. Up for locked, light comes on. Down for unlocked, light goes off. Way simple.

I have read about the different switch/ wiring options, I just thought it would be some useful info if the rear window relay box worked the same as the E locker control box. I was hoping someone had already tried it and had some results.

Here's what I did. It's about as simple as you can get aside from cutting out the indicator light, but I think a light is a good idea so you know what it's doing... It's not a momentary switch, one way to lock it, the other way to unlock.
