Interesting that you powder coat the bezel. 🤔

Not sure how this thing ran even with the choke
Good thing is I got the ultra rare Red visit but then she ignored me after stealing my thin mints

It’s as stripped and cleaned as it will get. One of the POs slapped rust converter haphazardly all over the engine bay and it’s in and under the paint. It will mostly disappear once all of the pretty new parts start going back on.

@wngrog Im assuming you’re using dobisons springs, yes? I’ve installed two sets, one on my ‘80 40 and one on my ‘88 62. Both lean/sag/whatever to the driver side. The 40 has the spare and me on the d side and is almost 2” lower, the 62 only has me (a whopping 165 lbs) on the driver side sags about an inch or so.

As there are no sides to these springs I’m wondering if you’ve ever gotten any feedback about “heavy” side sag? I’m pretty disappointed in these springs as a whole and the customer service who in the same breath asks if I’ve swapped spring sides and that there is no difference between sides so don’t bother.

I know about the 3/8-1/2” block on the opposite side, are you adding this preemptively?

I got Dobisons based on your builds (not holding you accountable at all, I’m a big boi), but I’m wondering if I got the junk stock.

I’m a driveway mechanic who could probably never afford your amazing formula, so I, like others attempt to emulate yours and others work. I’m not sure if you are aware of the influence you have on those of us who just love these things, so hopefully you’ll take this post with the grace it’s intended.

I’ve installed 20 or so kits. Some lean left. Some right. Some not at all.

I’ve added this to good results

60 rear springs are side specific. 40 are not.

Don’t be afraid to remove a spring on the higher side either.

Well, I don’t want to derail your thread, but if you’ll indulge me addressing these two points…

Why would the 60 rear springs be side specific when the 40’s are not? I just checked the 62, and I put the LH marked one on the Driver’s side.
The 62 sat level side to side until I really started driving it, adding my meat sack was the only change.
As for 40’s, almost every one has a spare on one side or the other compounded by the fact that it is hanging off, effectively increasing the weight.

Seems Dobisons should make side specific springs for 40’s or at least include the spacer block.

As for removing a spring, my top isn’t even on and it’s pretty much settled level front to back on the DS with a hair of a rake on the PS. I’m already considering adding leafs, if anything, in anticipation of putting my top back on. Will probably do a spacer as well.
These springs just seem weak on the 40…

I appreciate your input and allowing me to air some of my misgivings. Your builds are fun to watch and informative.
