Hey folks,

Got a lot of hissing at the gas tank cap. Went to order the ol' vc-120. It's not available online; local store didn't know when it would come back again.

Anyone have a lead on another canister that will fit? Anyone bought one of these recently (or have one to sell)?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

If I were you, I'd maybe do what LandcruiserPhil did and remove the ball (check) valve in the OEM unit. I will be trying this in a few weeks. I personally do not like that the VC120 is plastic & oversized.

I'd love to but there's just no way rebuilding oem is cheaper than the vc-120. Don't get me wrong, permanent solution > temporary solution but I'm looking for a quicker fix.

What about a cross reference # at O'Reilly or Advance? Likely?

Help a brother out; I'm thinking rainforest is Amazon but GM version; how am I determining what part that is?

Has it that theory been tested at the smog station?

I can't speak for CA, but here in Texas all they do is test the gas cap itself. Removing the check valve shouldn't hurt emissions, but I'd still worry about condensation in the tank.

My plan is to try and figure out how to make the check valve serviceable.. maybe tap it for a set screw with a hole in the middle.

I love ih8mud. Ordered acdelco version; will report any difficulty.

Thank you!

Same bracket with longer bolts and you are golden. Read the thread to find the right bolts. I can't remember off hand.

Passed fine 2 yrs ago in the Bay Area, Kali with the vc120.

cheers,
george.

This is the final look. I dont have a new bolt in the lower band yet but knew it would need to be flipped for a bolt later. I think i went overboard using the fuel injection lines as replacements but I had extra laying around. Fixed all my gas tank pressure issues.

Not the VC120 issue, I was referring to drilling out the check ball.

Well, they don't put any 'test equipment' on the canister so as long as it doesn't mess up any fuel tank vapor tests then I'd imagine it would still be good to go.

cheers,
george.

I don't have emissions testing...is there an easy way to get rid of this crap and prevent fuel cap pressure issues?
