"for 200 price I could add a 40 and a shop/garage to keep both of them in."

@Hornd You must really be from Ohio where they damn near pay you to own the land.

I like my 80, Yeah its not as refined as new stuff, but thats not the reason every one I know that has one keeps it around, or those that had one keep saying "I need to get another 80" now is it...... For me its the fact that 90% of people just think its an old 4runner, and a run of the mill "old clapped out yota" . Its got just enough Lux stuff in to make it the perfect comfortable go anyplace unit, Its just different enough that most dont know what it is, but those that do just grin, and nod in approval as you head out into he back country.

Yes, every happy 80s owner should have a 100 or 200 for the wife and to keep miles off the old favorite.

We use the wife's 2007 A4 for commuting. :steer: Even she's on-board with preserving the 80. A keeper!

I guess I hadn't updated my signature to show that I do also have a 100.

My sentiments exactly

You are right.
But the few cm (") :) more in the with of the body is really comfortable. We had our little one between us in the first row (passenger seat is a 1 !/2 seat) without a problem. Second row was blocked with three older kids. The with outside is the same as the 80 over flares or tires.

An 105 with nice barwork, 35 or 37 tires (and an intercooled HDT or HDFT) is a really good looking machine!

My problem here is to get it street legal, it is easier with the older ones.

Another example would be the pathfinder. I guess some would consider it an improvement but Nissan completely crapped on that model in my opinion.

I love real world reviews of new car models, so heres my 2 cents

I had to make a trip to the (oil)field recently and reserved a toyota 4 runner(or equivalent) for a week. I have a 2013 and 1992, so I had faith a newer model, even 2wheel drive, could handle a week of hitting well sites. To my disappointment, they gave me a 2 wheel drive Pathfinder. Let me clearly state, this is not an equivalent vehicle. The new Pathfinder is not equivalent to a new 4runner, a 92 4runner, or a 92 Pathfinder for that matter. No skid plates, and the rental company will find out how important those are the next time they service the vehicle. It is not a body on frame construction like the 4runner. FRONT WHEEL DRIVE! NO power, none. AC couldn't keep up with Lower Alabama heat.

The car was ugly as sin with terrible driver layout. Poor visibility with several rear blind spots. Brand new vehicle with no USB plugs? Horrible seats. Manual seat adjustment controls were stolen from a Yugo or something worse.

On the positive side: The headlights and cruise control worked, tires held air, had cup holders, and it started every time.

I became a Land Cruiser convert when I went from a 99 Jeep XJ to an '04 100 Series. The build quality, refinement and overall robustness was on a different level. But I quickly realized that I wanted less of the gadgetry and more of the basics. I sold the Hundy and moved to the 80. It's absolutely less refined, louder, less comfortable, etc. But, It just has sooooooo much more character. I don't regret the decision, don't miss the 100 and couldn't be happier.

Life is all about trade offs and compromise. We can't have all in one vessel and that's what you found out when you drove the 100. The better ride , on road manners and acceleration all go together.
I love my 80! I have owned many 4x4 vehicle in my 32 years of adult life and I would have to say that the 80 encompasses the best of both worlds better than any I have experienced.
She rides like a truck (I love it) while surounding my ass with a fairly comfy seat,a/c, and a cab that has decent . When I'm on the rubicon I am approached by would be buyers and accused of rolling in a Cadillac. Toyota set the bench mark with this incredible vehicle.
