I've not tried any of the 8 inch duty boots from Danner. I find the 8 inch height to be very uncomfortable for everyday wear, especially driving and prefer a high top hiker instead. Not sure what your wanting the boots to do but if you don't require stitch down construction then I would give a pair of keens a shot. The Targhee is nice if you like leather construction http://www.amazon.com/Targhee-II-Waterproof-Hiking-Chestnut/dp/B00E0JHEWE/?tag=ihco-20 . I can't say enough good things about the Danner Mountain Light ii , but they are quite pricey at near $300 and you could be the 1 out of 100 people that doesn't like them. They are certainly a long term investment and shouldn't last even hardcore hikers anything less than 5 years.

Is the lace system on the second shoe some kind of bungee arrangement?
It's a kevlar (-ish) loop. I was hesitant the first time I tried a system like this but have had no problems with the lace. I did break one of the plastic slide lock devices somehow - probably not while wearing them. At least 8 pairs of Salomons with this lacing system have come and gone on my feet over the last 3-4 years without issue. Very fast and secure. The lock can hide in a pouch on the tongue while wearing them or you can just let it flop around. I usually keep it loose enough to put the shoe on or off without adjusting for everyday use.

I find the tall heel of the Salomons to be a problem when driving my 40. It's just a foot angle thing. Not an issue in other vehicles.

Here is the picture ..

Hot weather in dry season, plenty rain and mud in rain season .. and honestly I don't expect to buy something to cover both areas, but maybe 2 boots that perform very well for each purpose ..

For rain season, I like to wear hi boots .. at least 6" and waterproof ( as much as that means these days ) ideally 8" ( fight with suction in mud ) and for " summer " ( dry season ) something light and fresh ..

Well I can't be much help with the rainy season as we don't have that here and I don't know what would work the best. If you want something light and fresh for dry season then the Salomon is the way to go. They make a high top version of the one I linked that would probably be the bees knees.

I wear Vasque and/or Merrell boots and love both brands. I usually buy whichever I can find on sale when it's time to buy a new pair, which is typically twice a year for me. I work 12.5 hour shifts walking on a mixture of cement, expanded metal catwalk and 'crush and run' gravel at my work and boots don't last too long in those conditions. Whenever I go out hiking around I just wear my "work" boots since they're really designed for hiking and not working.

Used combat boots for a long time. Indestructible and comfortable once they form to your feet after being in swamp for a few times. I've tried most of the quality boot brands over the years. Don' really like Danner or Merrell. Best boots I've ever had were 1970s Red wings that they discontinued followed by some custom made boots I had made in Korea. I've used nb postal shoes at work for a while and like them. Recently got some Dunham boots made on the same last and I like them too. My wife liked what I had to say about my boots and got some light weight nb and loves them. Lighter than the Dunhams but look pretty good. May try some myself.

I work a couple of days on building sites and a couple of days in an office, shop or car. Sometimes all in one day.

I wear these because of the zip down the side and building sandstone rockwalls gets muddy so I can easily remove them if required, without changing the lace settings.
They have never leaked. I have had them 18 months. Hose off and ready to go next day.

When lighter duties are required I wear these amongst other sneakers. they are lighter and have a scalloped lowered back so your driving angle is increased without restriction. They are about 6-7 years old and still going strong. 3 trips in the snow to NewZealand.

They both have no seam at the laces like this, they are fully sealed.

I know you can get them here on Ebay etc. I don't know how hard it would be for you? I paid about $150Aus
