Cricket cricket... No news..

Well that's not very optimistic now is it ^..

Luckily, I've seen this movie before. It's like watching Rambo movies over and over again. I know what's going to happen.
Spoiler Alert:
Let me try to guess. Some of the people who said they want this for around $2500, hope it will really cost $500 or less (installed). If the price comes in higher than $2500, and needs professional help to install, and mods to the gas tank and drive shaft replacement (and more); some of those previously "me first" people will want to wait to see how others like it "for a while" (years).

I know *I* want a doubler, but my enthusiasm would be diminished is it will also "double" the cost of my cruiser. (Price of my truck + all current mod parts = <$5000.) I'm "watching" this thread because I'd like this. I have been trying to resist the temptation to try to pre-buy it, because I expect the final product (installed) will be too rich for me.

I try to speak truth vis-a-vis hyperbole.

You did it for me much more eloquently.

Sounds like all the guys that said they wanted a 3 link kit!

And lower range gears before that....

And subtanks before that.....

And ... etc.

Normal cycle. :meh:

As an engineering geek, I find these doublers and tcase mods very interesting, but well beyond what I need or can justify spending for a DD. It is a definite cycle as Beno points out, watching from afar.

BUT, hey now, I want a subtank, I'd buy one from you right dang now if I could get close enough to the front of the line.

Maybe I'm one of the 5, but I can tell you the moment it's available I'll buy it. Did the same thing with my MC gears, order was placed the day I got the email about availability. The options that this gives, will lead to more 80's being used as trail rigs. The platform is growing quickly in popularity, and I'll wager they sell quite a few of these.

A crawl box was available for years before and only a few bought it. 80 owners do not want to chop their gas tank or cut their floor up. They're not hardcore.

They are not hardcore.

That sure is cute coming from the guy with "Hardcore Rock Crawling 80" in his sig line yet doesn't wanna upgrade steering cause it's too much work

I'm new to the 80 scene, and quite honestly before I bought mine, I could give a rats arse about them. So this crawl box, was it a direct replacement and just a two speed I assume? I went that route with my FJC and had the Marlin lefty with 4.7's. Hated it. The low range kicked ass when I wanted to be rollin <5mph, but it was that or Hi 1:1. A true doubler would be 10000x nicer, allowing me to have my standard H4, L4 (Marlin's already in there) and then uber crawl-bind and break sh!t speed. More options the better. I will jump on one when they are available. The marlins worked great with 37's, but I'm not looking forward to the loss with my new 40's.

And it was ahead of its time. It's downside was that it was $3000, plus shipping from Australia, lead times weren't great, and nobody was wheeling 80's that hard. Now that the platform is better supported, this forum is more open minded, and the prices are dropping, the 80 has truly become a viable hardcore platform. I still love my 4-runners, but I could never drive my built one across the country to wheel 5+ rated trails for a week and drive home in comfort like I can my 80. This has been a great rig, and is comfortable enough on 40's that my wife can still drive it to work.

If the marks adapter was still available and this was t in the works, I would be calling them. The NWF black box will be made of parts I can get locally if I need to and will let me keep my AWD. I don't care if it's $3k, it will be getting installed and will make the 80 an even better platform.

AA needs to make an offset Atlas for us :) for stock applications and when swapping for a v8 or diesel.

Indeed. That would be saving me some work at the moment.

I'm sure this was a deterrent, but if you research it you'll find there were significantly more downsides to Mark's Crawl Box than cost...

I'd be taking my time too for the 5 people who actually have the money and need for something like this.

You're WRONG beno. I counted 6 people.

...Oh wait... I think I counted myself twice... nevermind.

It's not that 80 owners aren't "hardcore" enough, it's that the "hardcore" 80 owners chose a bad platform.

Then those same "hardcore" owners come in here and complain about the lack of parts and lack of interest. No s***, what a revelation. Like it's somehow inconceivable that people would want to use a vehicle for its intended purpose and not want to literally change everything about it to fill a role it was never intended for and isn't suited for.

I'm all for development of new parts and using the 80 in new roles, but the condescension is tiring. Not necessarily speaking to this thread in particular.
