Dog treats, what's okay?

The Rooster looks like a good toy!! I saw something similar the other day, but it was a duck. I think I'll get him one.

He does love his Kong filled with goodies, but we left that at the Grandparents house!!

Pigs ears are okay, that's good to hear.

About the itching thing, he does scratch sometimes, maybe a Milkbone thing?! The SPCA fed him Sience Diet so that's just what we stuck with. Maybe I need to get the lamb & rice ones instead.

I did give him 2 grapes one day and he liked those, but I see that's not a good idea. It's suprising how gentle you need to be with dogs stomachs!

Thanks for the replies everybody!

For treats, we give them those freeze-dried chicken breasts from Costco.
I bought my dogs a bag of those and they totally love them. However, when I read something along the lines of "treated with radiation for your pets health", I decided that would be the last bag:confused:

irradiated foods/dog treats are cool -- no need to worry about safety. the radiation is used to kill the bacteria that could cause spoilage and/or illness.

pigs ears are a favorite of my dogs.
they don't last as long as they used to though.

mine seem to be okay enough with the "bully sticks", but the thought of giving the pooches bull penises kinda seems a little wierd to me.

My beagles love grapes. Did you guys read the article on Dogs and Grape? The dog ate a half a canister in one sitting. I would probably be sick if I ate a half a canister of raisins.
and if you kept on reading to the end it said as little as 7 raisins/grapes could cause problems. My guy loves the bill jack liver treats and they are small and dont crumble in your pocket on a walk(great for training). my roomates lab never even knows what he just ate cause the size. Vet approves the pig ears for quick treats and the real bones and ropes for power chewing sessions. thatcher splits tennis balls too and is a mutilator of toys,,, we will have to try the rooster

I'm not too worried about it. Even the cat (a FREAK for chicken) comes begging for a crumbly piece of chicken when he hears the bag crinkle.

cats

Cats make great chew toys for dogs :D :D

My 90 lb wolf dog has a taste for elk. It's really good for his teeth, too.

Go to your local Supermarket or major grocery chain and look around the meat department for genuine beef bones. At Publix, they keep the baked bones individually wrapped in a basket containing all sizes, typically 9"L x 2.5"w with natural fill in the center. These are the real deal and NEVER splinter or break off. They are baked and all natural. My LEAN 75 lb Lab LOVES them and she's occupied for a few hours with a new one. She will pick it up and gnaw at it on subsequent days. Orbee, Air Dog and old socks and t-shirts tied in knots is what she LOVES to tear apart. ps, I throw am old bed sheet on the floor if she has a new bone in the house, it can get slobbery otherwise outdoors in the grass. I pick it up and rinse it for her. (why no dog emoticon?)

Lamb lung. Yeah, it's pretty funky.

I forgot to mention going to butcher and picking him up oxtails and marrow bone.

He goes bananas over those.

Idave is now my new God on MUD..............Any man who says here boy, heres an Elk leg! Is my hero!

Really?.... My heeler will eat ANYTHING... raw, cooked, linoleum, vinyl siding, calculators, remote controls, lettuce, tomatoes, her own poop, anything.
I was drinking a Pepsi and half of it left my mouth after reading this....

She (heeler) will sit in front of the "Shared" food bowl and just camp out. My lab gets so pist off she tattles by barking till we come remove Annie from the room so she (lab) can eat.

The chicken jerky is appealing... one of the wife's helpers at the clinic has been known to partake on a regular basis
