Hello again,

In regards to emblems and other decals on the 81 BJ42, does anyone have OLD photos of bj42's that shows where all of the various stickers and emblems went, engine bays to show colors and correct parts of various components.

You know....just some helps for me as I am collecting things to restore this bj correctly. Any pictures will help!

thanks

Emblems!

Unreal! Where did that come from ? did you make it?
I have a 81 Bj41 , 2b engine, that I bought right after it had almost 100% frame off resto, Aqualu tub installed etc, with a pile of emblems in the glove box....
now I know where they go , after almost 4 years! ( not ANY BJs on my island - Kauai)

thanks heaps man~

You're welcome

It's a page from a FSM parts book that was on a cd, together with a chassis/body and engine manual, that I bought last year.

Thats cool ... But I have never seen any with #4 and 5 before anyone got one with badges in these areas??? Is it a JDM area maybe

hey Dallas

Couple of shots of my rig, now that I know you are into the BJ series. I have not sent you any shots before...
IT has some things not too stock, like the rear hatch and tailgate, aluminum tub , fenders, and tailgate, and the new Old Man Imu suspension ( just 2" lift)

just fixed the Ac this past weekend... nice for the summer over here...

I apologize for the long delay. Life......

Anyhow I have been tinkering on random saturday's trying to mock everything up and get it set. I have had a few glitches and snags, but have been able to work around them.

I know a lot of you are SOA, V8 fans...but I like what came from Toyota originally (personally).

So, I started the "back to spring under" fix.

The rear was a bit easier as you all know. Luckily the front axle was NOT cut and turned. The aftermarket modifications and work that was done on this cruiser from top to bottom is horrible in about every regard.

Back to spring under:

I then worked on gutting out that awful Saginaw setup. Again, why OH WHY do folks find it necessary to torch the crap out of the front of 40's to put power steering on them? There are so many options and solutions besides hanging that sloppy looking Saginaw box up there. (again just personal opinions here folks)

Gutted, and fixing the power steering.

I have a bit more touching up as you can see, but wanted to just get it setup and drilled for the OEM steering to go back in....I'm basically mocking everything up at this point.

I then cut out all of the V8 garbage fixed the frame, and have OEM mounts back in:

Now, lets install what was intended to be in here.....a 3B Diesel.

Measuring/adjusting/ahhhhhhh MUCH BETTER.

Mocking up the steering setup. Yes, I am using a 1977 one piece steering shaft. Same length, less complicated and the stock shaft I had in there was a major disaster (cut/hacked/welded on, etc.. for the v8 conversion.)

Luckily I was able to find a set of unmolested dual battery tray's. I just need to clean them up and install them.

427.jpg

Also - a BIRD keeps flying in the way of the BJ42!!! I can't wait to finish that project.

425.jpg

Anyhow - thought I would keep you guys posted.

Next is:

Mounting the battery towers.
Finding a thermostat housing that points RIGHT. (or left as you look at the front of the vehicle)
20.4V glow plugs
Running the fuel line
Running the cooling lines
and ....and.....and......

later!

I know you've had your share of issues with this build but you are making real progress

I can see you've got the right VALUES Dallas.

Or I should probably just say "your values conform to my own" because I guess everybody is entitled to their own little perversions.

Must be frustrating having to do so much work just to get it back to "unmolested status" though.

hey....thanks guys. I really appreciate it.

So I have a question regarding the radiator pull-down canvas thing. I see the bracket that is on the frame where that wire goes through, but how does it operate when you pull it down? What does the eyelet hook into or how does that work? Anyone have a picture of it?

Thanks.

It just pulls down like a sun shade... What do you want to see in the way of pics

Maybe this helps a little Dallas

I do see a hook there ... but you may still need a photo to determine where the hook goes exactly.

Hello,

It is good to see the old lady going back to its natural, so to speak, status.

Keep up the good work.
