I apologize for the long delay. Life......
Anyhow I have been tinkering on random saturday's trying to mock everything up and get it set. I have had a few glitches and snags, but have been able to work around them.
I know a lot of you are SOA, V8 fans...but I like what came from Toyota originally (personally).
So, I started the "back to spring under" fix.
The rear was a bit easier as you all know. Luckily the front axle was NOT cut and turned. The aftermarket modifications and work that was done on this cruiser from top to bottom is horrible in about every regard.
Back to spring under:
I then worked on gutting out that awful Saginaw setup. Again, why OH WHY do folks find it necessary to torch the crap out of the front of 40's to put power steering on them? There are so many options and solutions besides hanging that sloppy looking Saginaw box up there. (again just personal opinions here folks)
Gutted, and fixing the power steering.
I have a bit more touching up as you can see, but wanted to just get it setup and drilled for the OEM steering to go back in....I'm basically mocking everything up at this point.
I then cut out all of the V8 garbage fixed the frame, and have OEM mounts back in:
Now, lets install what was intended to be in here.....a 3B Diesel.
Measuring/adjusting/ahhhhhhh MUCH BETTER.
Mocking up the steering setup. Yes, I am using a 1977 one piece steering shaft. Same length, less complicated and the stock shaft I had in there was a major disaster (cut/hacked/welded on, etc.. for the v8 conversion.)
Luckily I was able to find a set of unmolested dual battery tray's. I just need to clean them up and install them.
Also - a BIRD keeps flying in the way of the BJ42!!! I can't wait to finish that project.
Anyhow - thought I would keep you guys posted.
Next is:
Mounting the battery towers.
Finding a thermostat housing that points RIGHT. (or left as you look at the front of the vehicle)
20.4V glow plugs
Running the fuel line
Running the cooling lines
and ....and.....and......
later!
