Nice I ll have to look into that

3B is on the Tree

I plopped the 3b on the tree last night and was able to get a good look at her.

I also have been paging through the user manual quite a bit for the 3B as pictured above.

Some questions for you.

First, are those coils around the oil? filter there stock? I did not see anything of the sort in the 3b engine manual.

Second, I have not dug too far into the manual but it appears I have two filters. I need to read/learn about what they are.

Very soon I will be selling all of the 12V stuff to hopefully find 24V stuff (or trading if I can find a fella to).

I noticed that I am missing the rod that connects the EDIC to the fuel pump.

I reckon there will be several bits and pieces that I will need to collect as this project matures.

Thoughts, tips, ideas?

The one with coils is your fuel filter. Those coils are not stock. They are probably plumbed into the cooling system somehow to heat up the fuel. It's a requirement if you're running biofuel in the winter or operating at -50C in the Arctic. I doubt you'll need the extra heat on your fuel. The second picture is your oil filter

Dmad-

I will look and see if that EDIC rod is still on the truck. Cross your fingers! Also, please don't hesitate to call or e-mail if you are looking for bits and pieces that I might be able to help with or a part that is missing. I am probably just as excited to see this thing as anyone else. The copper tube around the oil filter is just what Bandit stated, to preheat the fuel in cold weather. The truck came from Alaska, hence it's super rusty frame.

More progress as I steam through the restoration.

I disassembled the front body pieces, fenders, bib, etc... and in doing so snapped only two bolts off (one off each side of the 12mm's holing the fenders to the frame). That reminds me I need to find a good tap set.

I latched onto the engine with a chunk of 3 ton strapping:

This is (for those of you that have read those redneck joke in regards to tools) that one liner that read: "What is an engine hoist for? .... To test the tensile strength of everything you forgot to disconnect!"

Does this mean wrong t-case too?

I am so sick of running into parts that are costing a fortune to source. I know, I know, I have been here before, and I had similar issues with the FJ45 I restored, but not to this magnitude. Every corner I go around is a disaster.

Had I known all this before purchasing it - I would have not bought it. NONETHELESS, here we are and I am DRIVEN to get this BJ42 fixed, corrected, and restored.

Any 21 spline 4 speeds laying around? .....sigh.....

rest assured that as you are wrenching on your cruisers, I am likely under mine.

your friend in the diam....I mean cruiser business,

That's a little annoying. . . -_-

I'm not sure how complete the online PDF's are but if you need anything off of an official printed manual I have both the 3B engine and Landcruiser body manuals, and am willing to flex some copyright laws if you need anything scanned.

Chin up! - bright side is you still have the dual battery brackets and what appears to be a stock bumper in fine condition :D

Thanks Nickel - I appreciate it buddy.

This is very true. There are many things still correct and hopeful on this rig. It's too bad the battery brackets are cut up in areas to allow for power steering on the left side, and cut to fit the radiator support on the right side.

I just get discouraged at times, but this isn't my first rodeo - we'll get to the bottom of this.

I appreciate the support fellas.

I wasn't gonna mention the power steering.....

 just did :bang:

Yes....dissecting the power steering setup is going to be major surgery.

A quick note:

Maybe this is just because I love "Toyota Land Cruisers" so much, or maybe because I enjoy actual "restorations" (which it seems, the term "restore" various greatly by today's standards. When I use restore I use it in terms of returning it to the way it was when it rolled off the line), but for the sake of preserving the Toyota Land Cruiser (because my kids are already asking about the day they can drag one home to restore).
PLEASE PEOPLE, stop hacking the crap out of them! This power steering setup in the BJ42 is an absolute disaster. We need more room, NO PROBLEM (insert torch lighting sound here).

I am estimating a good 40-60 hours to fix what they did to put power steering on this rig, minimum.

Ok, I am done complaining for today. (Just today, ha ha ha)

I just bought this re-threading set. Re-threading is different from cutting new threads. I don't know why, but it is.

Great deal on Kastar Hand Tools 971 at ToolTopia.com

That's the best price I could find on the 48-pc set. Snap-on re-brands this set for more than twice the price:

RTD48, Kit, Master Rethreading, U.S./Metric

Although my current build is a resto-mod (restoration and upgrade) I am using nearly all Toyota parts. This build will never be sold and will be my daily driver and as such I will be keeping it alive and well for the forseeable fututre.

I plan to make ammends for my non-stock alterations by doing exactly what you are to another 42 - don't tell my wife ;).
