I will do this when I get back from Colorado, I'm hopping to get some good pics up as well.
Just finished up a rear for a fellow mud member to show off at HIH,
We went with a silver on the main bumper and black swing out and caps.

That thing is SOOOO friggin' sick! Have you gotten to #15 on the list yet;)

Did I miss the post with the pricing on this?

You gotta sift through the pages. There's a ballpark price posted in here somewhere. Start at the end and go backwards because it's closer to the end of the thread than the beginning.

IIRC it's about $2600 for the uncoated bumper with the tire swing. Add $ for a second swing and shipping.

Ok thanks. I'll have to search for it when I get home. Been to busy today at work.

Found it $2400. That's for the bumper, tire carrier and high lift mount shipped I believe. I also found your going to be designing an aux tank for fuel or water. If you do a decent size aux water tank benc will have a good amount of my money by the time I'm all done.

Sorry guys, I was out of town for 3 weeks at 100s in the hills, awesome event!
I will update the first page with pricing and specs.
I am finally ready to start production!
I will go through the the list on page one and put a * by all the names that have emailed me.
If you have not sent me an email with contact and bumper build info please do! bencalhoon86@gmail.com

Also please check you voice mail.
I left several messages on Friday.
Thanks.

For those of you that do not know, @benc is an awesome vendor and has been involved in the 100s in the Hills event for the past two years. @paflytyer and I cannot say enough good things about Ben, his products, and his generosity. In two raffles he has given away 3 bumpers!! 2 this year. That's huge for any size event. Hate to interupt this thread, just wanted to make sure you guys know you are dealing with a great guy. I even snapped a few pics of the rear bumper he got together on @IHScoutII75 's rig. Great work. Don't mind the dirt, this was after three awesome days in the San Juans.

Hey now, this is supposed to be a Porn free Zone...;-)

Incredible work, so clean and tight, far more than just welding and painting, very good Industrial design /Engineering understanding

Yes Ben really is a class act! And builds great bumpers! In 3 days of riding trails I didn't hear one rattle & I slammed it down pretty hard a few times and caused zero damage... Thanks again Ben for letting my rig be the guinea pig!

This is what I call great Engineering.

The detail of the "Tire slider" is glorious, most companies just weld a 1/4" circle/plate with a bunch of holes and call it the day, Ben gives you the choice (Future proof/different vehicle, different diameter bolt pattern, etc) of carrying the tire as high/low as you need/please.

Plus just because this truck's weight almost 3 tons those not mean they can carry a 1/4 ton bumper like in no big deal, all this gussets/cut/bend plates are there for a reason and nothing else, not laziness,, no standardization of parts, not easy of production, intense gusseting reinforcements, no closed tubes that promote condensation and rust, everything is open to be coated/sand blasted as many times as you need to.

One suggestion, maybe some military spec Zinc-Aluminum/Jet coated/PTFE coated bolts will be a nice detail and "Safety wire" ready is never a wasted effort..

As for the hardware, all the bolts on the swing arm and latch are stainless, I was going to use stainless on all the 1/2" bolts as well but the cost would end up going up about $150 per bumper.
I'll have to look into the bolts you mentioned.

I'm not sure what you mean on the safety wire thing, I'm assuming you are talking about the swing arm? If so there is a built in stop on the hinge that will only allow it to open so far.

He's taking about bolts that are pre drilled for the use of safety wire. They're very commonplace in Motorsports, especially motorcycle racing. They are also quite expensive, I would estimate an additional $200-300 per bumper if you did all of the bolts in stainless safety wire ready bolts/nuts.

I'm not a fastener expert but I do know Stainless steel is forbidden in many high stress/vibration structural applications..

Not even "12.8" stainless is considered reliable enough (only made in Switzerland that I know off this days for Silly, SILLY money)

The standard is high grade, but not always the Stiffest) Steel fasteners and a variety of chemical coating exist that even make the resistent to acid, crazy high temperatures, etc..

For the system to work you need special drill out bolts.

Safety wire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The procedures are highly Regulated, inspected and full of normatives..

Safety wire is a Aircraft/aerospace standard that has become commonplace in all kind of sports like car/bike rally/road racing, basically mechanically avoid the fasteners from spinning, coming loose and fall off..
SafetyWire1.jpg

Generally It require no treadlock, no crazy high torques, really easy to take the part in the field and replace it with another one (Most of this equipment run redundant backups but when Murphy's law attach....

Plus is super fun, My own little interpretation, but my military helicopter mechanics kiss my feet for this concept, single strand of wire (The procedure to repair acrylic bubbles in the field call for a single knot at the end up each lace (The wire poke like crazy)

This is spreading the load in small amounts, to the point thin acrylic/ABS/Polycarbonate failings never ever break on the same place.

I resent mine a few days ago. Did you get it? Didn't get a response so just wanted to make sure
I did thanks.
I put a * next to all the names I
Have received emails from on the list.

Safety wire? On a truck bumper?

No question this bumper is a technical achievement, but it's not a rocket engine. ( no offense Ben)

I'm sure blue locktite would get the job done, and red locktite for the nuclear option.

Nothing else works as well, no over torquing, no chemicals, no heat guns.

Have you ever work on a Dakar bike/car/truck in the middle of the night when the wind is blowing and is almost no lights...??

Combat zones, Oh so fun.

Bah, Rockets are easy, clean rooms, control environments..

I work, hack, fix, F^ck, modified, race, etc BMW Boxer (Well KTM 950/640 too) motorcycles for the last 20 something years, half the main bolts on the tranny, final drive and swingarm are made of some strange aluminum base alloy, heavy locktype, metal brush to clean it very carefully, Screw/nut tensioner (38mm) lovely, 220 pounds of torque, heat gun all the way up, good luck finding that stuff in a little town in Baja, Sun, sorry is not that hot, torche to much > alters heat treatment..

We carry the spares, but the big tools are just much to big and the probability of failure remote to justify the extra load.

Cars are mules, you can carry a million "just because" unnecessary objects and somehow heavy things, have access to electricity, etc..

Your choice, I know mine..
