The steel bumper without bull bar is around 90lbs, the aluminum bumper will be right around 30 lbs.
Very interested for a full aluminum for an LX470. What winch will fit? Any updates?

It will fit most non integrated 8-12k winches. I have some new equipment that will be added to the shop within the next couple weeks, once that is set up I should have the capabilities for the full aluminum bumper. This is one of the first things I am going to finalize once I have everything needed.
Thanks!

As someone who has been waiting patiently for the full Al version, this is good to hear!

Sorry for the delay on the aluminum bumpers!
I have a new cnc plasma table coming next Monday, once I cut all my current orders I will focus on finalizing the full aluminum bumper. The hold up so far is my laser cutter can only cut 1/8" aluminum, the bumper needs to be a combination of 1/8" 3/16" and 1/4".
I got some prices from different cutters and they were way to high!
Once my table comes I will be able to cut the material needed to build a proper full aluminum bumper.
If all goes as planned I should have a cnc press brake in the near future as well, this will allow me to do all manufacturing in house!
Expect to see shorter lead times and a lot of new products in the not to far future.
Thanks for all the support and patience!
Ben

Uhhh @benc have you seen this guy??? Looks like he’s trying to copy your design! And he’s doing a verrrry poor job at it:rofl: Not sure if you know this guy or not or if he’s even on Mud, but figured I’d let you know about a copycat. Keep up the phenomenal work with all your projects and keep putting guys like these to shame!

Thanks, I just saw him on Saturday while browsing instagram. I reposted his pic and let the loyal land cruiser comunity do the rest. There are some good comments on his stuff now ;) he has yet to reply. I have seen some copies of my stuff before but nothing this blatant yet.

Cut the full revised prototype aluminum bumper today, bumped up to 3/16" and 1/4" plus added some reinforcements.
Looking like we should be about $300 more like I suspected.
I will drop it off at the bender tomorrow.

Ben, I know I don't have one of your bumpers but damn it if I didn't place my order for my BIOR bumper just a couple months before you began initial production on the original (steel) bumpers. I'm hoping one day to own one of these pieces of artwork and phenomenal craftsmanship. Also, I love the new addition to the shop with the CNC plasma cutter. Just a quick question though: have you considered adding a press brake to the stable of tools you already have? Well maybe that was a stupid question because I'm sure you have...I was just curious if you are slowly working your way towards producing these 100% in-house? I mean come on Ben, you just bought that fancy new plasma cutter. What's a few extra bucks for a brake? It's just money right??:D Hahah in all seriousness keep up the great work and I do dream of having one of your bumpers on day! I also dream of having your garage and tools but I need to hit that powerball first...

Yes, press brake is in the plans. Press brakes seam to be one of the biggest hurdles for small Fab shops as the entry level price for a decent one is around 50k and all the tooling. The power requirements are also a problem for me right now.
My cad guy is into robotics and automation and has a cnc press brake all designed in 3D that he is going to build, hoping that works out as planned as with it, all manufacturing will be done in house. He must be pretty confident it will work out as he has invested over 7k of his own money. One we know it works I will likely buy it off him.

How about steel / aluminium hybrid bumper?
Isn't that already available? Steel center and aluminum sides? I believe I asked about this a little while ago and to my knowledge that has been an option for a while.

How about steel / aluminium hybrid bumper?

Very much available now! Steel center section and stinger, aluminum wing sections. So far so good. I wouldn't Hi-Lift or something similar from the wings but I've stood on them and moved thick brush without incident.

What is the advantage of a hybrid steel center with aluminum sides vs all aluminum?

Are the recovery points part of the center section of the bumper? Curious how strong they are on the Aluminum bumper.

I scrolled through this thread and saw a weight mentioned for the full steel (90lbs) and full aluminum (30lbs) but did not see a weight for the hybrid bumper.

Is all aluminum the only recommended way to go for an LX with AHC due to the weight of the bumper?

The new design full aluminum bumper should be as strong as the steel version so really not much benefit anymore.
The new full aluminum weight is about 45lbs, hybrid is about 65lbs.
The cost will be about $300 more for the full aluminum.

Definitely interested in an all aluminum front bumper with 4 piece skid system.

With the full aluminum, how is it going to hold up to using the recovery points on the front bumper? Ha ha I definitely have already used the recover points on the full steel version and they held up well. The front bumper was pulled forward a little bit (maybe 1/4" at the horizontal mounting points) because of a aggressive pull vehicle driver! No big as I was installing a winch the following week. Ha ha the reinstall process certainly made me appreciate how heavy ~160 lbs (with the winch) was!
