What's the word bird?
Ben said he’ll hit the project hard mid-January, unless something comes up. Install suspension, then build the rear bumper. He thinks it will go fast.

Nice, do you know if the fog lights have good output or do most end up getting the bigger round lights? Gonna have an intercooler and would like to limit blockage as much as possible. Thanks Roadapple, appreciate the updates

You can install a variety of lights. I’m installing 3x3” clear Rigid D Series flood lights in the lower bumper. With the angled wings and 4700 lumens, they should make good ditch lighting. I’m also installing 6” Rigid 360 Series lights with 8600 lumens above the winch to light the trail ahead. These aren’t very big, so cooling shouldn’t be an issue.

I hope the 80 will have something similar to this. Can’t wait to see what the 80 bumper will look like.
This is what the front looks like without lights or powder coating. You can order without the lights if you wish. Ben said you order powered coating in a bunch of colors.

Curious if we'd be able to do the "3rd" swingout on the 80 rear. Looks pretty damn sweet to setup like this at camp.

Ben has a similar option on his truck. Not sure if it’s the same or not. We didn’t discuss this option since I’m adding a 3 Jerry can holder opposite the spare tire. The spare comes with a small fold down table.

Do you know if we will have the low stinger or high stinger option as well?
Yes, his website shows both the small and large stinger options available for the 100, so it should be available for the 80. Many of the bumper parts are used across multiple platforms.

Hey @Road Apple has there been a decision made on how the rear trailer hitch is to be designed? Cutting the crossmember or installing a hitch lower?

With my concern for departure angle in mind, Ben is considering a hybrid design that may require partially cutting the cross member. I don’t want to completely cut the cross member if possible, but don’t want a receiver dragging on rocks and ledges. He won’t know until he gets in there since this is the first 80. The receiver will have to stick out far enough to install the pin or the pin could be installed under the bumper, which would be a pain in the a**, but provide better ground clearance.

What do you think?

Hopefully will have updates in a couple weeks.

@Road Apple I think the pin under might be annoying but not something anyone has to get to everyday, so it would not be a deterrent from buying for me. As you said after talking to Ben he still has to "see" how it looks and manage the space. Personally i think your rig is setting the template anyway and I am fairly confident I would be good with however that comes out.

I only ordered the front as he didn't feel comfortable last summer getting bunches of orders in that early, which i completely understand. I like the way he is trying to do it. once he gets the patterns ironed out for both front and rear it will be easy. I also like that he is working with at least one mud member for the practicality of it. in other words these won't just look nice but be well designed also.

I think I'm on the same page also. With not towing regularly the pain of reaching under the bumper to set the pin would be a very minor offset to the benefits of having the hitch set up higher.
As for cutting the cross member I might cry but again the trade off is worth it. To level my trailer I have to use a 6" receiver hitch flipped up. I'm hoping that between a 2" lift (currently stock) and maximizing hitch height on a bumper I can run a straight to the trailer.

My boss has been loving his Dissent on his 200 pictured here. I have been able to take some long hard looks as well as get my hands on it also and am quite impressed in the design and execution of his rear bumper carrier specifically. Little details like paddle latching, and his storage swing out is pretty rad! I believe he saves weight by using aluminum on the swing outs? I may be wrong. Gonna be cool when you get yours @Road Apple I’ll be excited to see it in person.

Nice pictures @Shoredreamer. Having another positive review helps validate this purchase. Especially happy to hear quality and detail have been a priority in past builds.

Although I won’t be buying the storage swing out right now, in favor of extra fuel and water, Dissent’s modular design allows switching out Jerry cans for the storage unit at anytime. A great option to have enabling mission flexibility.

Ben is also working on a Jerry can locking system that is like nothing I’ve seen before. Each individual can has a mounting frame allowing each can to be locked in place with a keyed lock or removed one at a time. Pretty slick design that I’m not describing well enough to do it justice. It’s coming down the pipe though.

@Shoredreamer , you can expect a message when the truck is back in town.

Personally was hoping not to cut the cross member, but wouldnt be the end of the world.
I'm hoping to figure out a way to mount a two bike tray rack off a swingout as well, as i've seen ben do on some other 100 bumpers.
Wonder if that'd work with a storage box setup and a full size spare... hmm.

I don’t want to cut the cross member either. Since I’ll be wheeling rocky trails in the Sierra’s, departure angle takes precedence though. With 4x4Labs in the general area and with great departure angle, Ben may need to offer good departure angle as well in the production model.

The bike tray should be an easy add on. All his accessories bolt on and change quickly.
