So I read an old posts about extending Fj60 axles about 3 inches on the short side to NOT outboard the springs on an Fj40 SOA when installing Fj60 axles.

So besides the fact I have to find a 3" extension sleeve for a Fj60 axle will the Trail Gear Dirty 30's +3 work with a non rock assault axle housing like an extended Fj60 housing?

The website say this birfield was designed exclusively for the rock assault axle

AFAIK the rock assualt axle uses conventional birfs.

I just did an out board on my 40 and I really think it was less work than putting in a 3" extension, just my 2 cents.

Dyno

yes they should

When I bought these parts, I found the axles were for the +3 tacoma housing, which does not mean they are 3" wider. It means when buying both axle shafts the housing becomes 3" wider.

I have 2 of the +3 longside axle shafts for sale if you need me to measure one for you.

I widened the FJ60 axle on my 40 with Dave's axle sleeve. It widened the short side by 2 5/8" and then you don't have to outboard the spring perches. I also used one of trail gears rock assault axle shafts. I think it was the +3 shaft, but they have measurements on their site to tell you what the length is. By using the trail gear shaft you don't have to buy a custom length shaft. However the trail gear shaft is 3/8" shorter than what it ideally should be. I figured if the shaft slides in the differential side gears 3/8" less it isn't enough to worry about. I then bought a 30 spline rcv birfield to put on the rock assault shaft. U could use trail gears birfield too. Anyway mine works great and I saved money compared to a custom shaft. Don't forget you have to pay for a high steer kit. A buddy just did this too, his high steer was for a Fj60, and it had enough adjustment to still fit with the sleeve.

Yes I have lukes high steer kit for fj60 axle and I'm going to ask him if he can make the tie rods a bit longer to support the extension.

I think I'll buy the trail gear full 30 extended shaft. Inner axle and birfirlds.

I'll make sure to find the page with full dimensions.
