I'd recommend changing the transmission to an 8L90 or 10L90. Both will give you better overdrive than the 6l80.

You can go aftermarket for Ring and Pinion. Terrain tamer sells different gears. Not sure how low you can go. But I'd leave it with a factory ratio for simplicity. It's always easier to source of the shelf local parts than it is to order something unique from overseas.

in my 105, which is essentially an 80 series with a 100 body. I did an L83 swap with the 6l80. My cruiser came with the 4:30 gears in the diffs. The ratio is steep from the factory to help the original 1HZ. Long story short, I swapped the gears to 3.73 from the UZJ100.

If I was to do this again, I'd go with 8 or 10 speed transmission. You'll get better range than the 6l80.

Good luck

I'm running a 6.2L LS with 6L80, 4.88 gears and 37's.

I think it would be too much gearing for 35's and definitely 33's.

As suggested, stick with stock gears, 35's and get some seat time. After that, evaluate.

Update: Here's my mph/rpm numbers

70mph / 2165 rpm
75mph / 2350 rpm

I have stock high range gears, 3:1 low range
I literally just got my 3rd members regeared to 4.88's today and plan to go to 37's since that combo gets you back to stock gearing and am planning an LS or LT swap and now am 2nd guessing going with lower gears. Now I'm wondering if I should go with a Gen III / IV and 6L80 or a Gen V and a 10L80.

L96 + 6l90e and stock 4.10 gears with 35" Tires.

My theory was that the 4.10s were perfect for 35" and the 6l90e. I needed to test that theory and finally drove on the highway tonight for the first time.

It was indeed 2000 rpm @ 70 mph, which I think is fine.
