Who can give more information on Hino engines as J05C series? There is J05C-TA - according to what I have managed to dig out it is a mechanical 4.6 turbo engine. And J05C-TF which is 4.7 electronically controlled (not a Common Rail) engine.
Is there any one who can give more info on these two engines? These two would be perfect match to weight of overloaded expedition Cruisers. Not heavy as Cummins, and still Toyota

Fair prices for pretty much new engine

6bt is way OVERKILL , I spoke to one guy local here that just did his 96LC and he regret he went for 6bt , too heavy and if he would do it again he would switch to 1hdfte is the best option.

you "spoke to one guy", isn't that how rumors start? or gossip?
lol
Speaking from experience, I love my 6bt conversion. I have doubled the gas mileage, the torque is amazing and its definitely a head turner. Mind you I have only been driving it for 2 1/2 months and have a few things to still do to be completely finished, but overall so far I'm really happy with the results!!

There is no wrong Motor to put in your Truck. I really comes down to budget, parts Availability And intended use. I swapped a toyota diesel into my 80 but when I'm towing I always wish I put a 6bt in it.
I should also add I had the toyota Diesel engine already. My only personal preference is to have a 6 cylinder over a 4.

I was very fortunate to meet the guy behind the diesel Adapters who manufactures a great kit for the 6bt swap, he even let me drive one of his, and what he has done has put the frosting on top the FJ80 cake it is perfect how the thing should have been made, I have never drive a FJ80 that was so nice it had balls handled great didn't feel like it was heavy. Whats really great about this guy he offered, his own shop to my son for his Make A Wish and my son was allowed to do exactly what he had for his wish, I could never thank him enough for he let my son do something, he really wanted to do, and he produces IMHO the best way to swap out the boat anchor and have power in your FJ80, Dustin is great guy and strait shooter Thank you again Dustin

Any 96-97 80's with the swap?

I'm trying to figure out the obdii stuff. And how that is done.
If you are referring to the 6BT swap, the answer is there will be no OBDII with a 6BT. It is a fully mechanical motor.

Same goes for most if not all swapped 95-97 land cruisers. Who wants a computer controlled diesel..... Spfff

I'm just looking at how I'd smog it. DOA obdii is a fail.

Unmm smog and diesel don't generally go in the same sentence...

Diesels have only recently started to have any emissions testing. And I didn't think AZ had any emissions testing at all?

I could be wrong.

Just around Phoenix I think.

How difficult would it be to swap in a BMW diesel engine? It is throttle by wire technology.
3.0 straight 6, much lighter than any 6 cyl Cummins with lots of power.

Or a Mercedes V6 diesel? Better weight distribution in my mind.

Haven't heard of the BMW being done...

The Merc is a viable option... I think the older ones are inline 5's and maybe even a 6....

That's been my plan if I ever do it and stay in this forsaken state...

Both options are viable. Issues you will run into off the battery is lack of support. Secondly I know both vehicles have multiple ecu's for the engine, transmission, airbags, climate controle can bus guage ect. Issue is they usually all need to be connected and working for the engine to operate fault free.

With the amount of work in loved at that point I would say you are better off getting a different truck.

Yes, it's true about the ECUs.

There is a way to do it without the hassle of numerous ECUs working together, but that also means CARB will not like at all. In the misfortunate CARB states you need to preserve the emission system which came with the original engine.
See what happened to VW today. $18 Bil fine.

What about the Mercedes OM606? It can be easily converted to a mechanical diesel by pulling the ECU & Pump, and replacing it with the OM603's pump. It may be under powered in it's stock form but there are a lot of easy ways to squeeze more performance out of it, lots of folks in Europe are getting 300+HP without durability issues (or if you don't mind breaking some parts & doing rebuilds you can go beyond 500+hp).

This has become the new front runner for my future engine swap plans.

By tuning the ECU you can get 200 hp and 300 lb-ft out of it. Add bigger injectors and OM603 pump and things get better.
What transmission can be used? MB? Toyota? Toyota manual?

I thought alot about the 606 and using a 603 pump like Jacobs did here The Mercruiser, 87FJ60 with a OM606 but you really have to limit the up travel even after oil pan modification. I've set my eyes on either a cummins 12v or a LS but leaning towards the cummins.
