I was able to build a huge hoist that will assist in lifting the body on and off the frame through out my build numerous times. Got the body off the old frame and onto the new rolling chassis. Got some lord isolators from CrewCab59, and started making my motor mounts but simply ran out of gas, weekend was long.

I cant believe I missed this build. I love your hoist. looks killer

Yea, its large. Its a HY35W. Im not going to run a wastegate so i guess a HY35. Its from a 2004 Dodge 24v. It has a 9cm^3 exhaust housing which works great with this smaller motor. I know many others who have run it and have had great success. With no wastegate, i expect to see 30-35psi with max fuel. I hope to start it later this week....

wwwooooou .. I hope some day run an diesel engine with 30 - 35 PSI .. well need to swap to cummins engine .. :D

Have you double checked you front driveshaft?

Looks like it will be very close to the oil pan.

Ohyes, i have checked and checked!!! I will most def have to modify my oil pan, not that happy about it, but hey its all part of the build. Im going to wait until i get a rear shaft and have it drivable to flex it out to see what needs to be taken off the oil pan, or i might just use the hoist to see what needs to be gone.

It's always an exciting day when those little 4bts start right up! Congrats on breathing life into it. That's a good little wiggle on shut down too.

ohh men .. that's sweeet ! I want one 4BT for birthday !!! holy fast start .. ! ( was cold ? )

Man i wish i could give an update! Ive got less than 4 weeks left til summer break here at NCSU. So with exams ive only had time to visit Martinsville last weekend to watch my boy Jimmie Johnson take the checkered fag once again. Im headed home for Easter weekend and plan to fix my transmission which BROKE!(more on that story later) and to finish welding up the rear hybrid axle and mount my PS box and then start on the body some(mostly where the body mounts are and the tranny hump for my dana300 twin-stick shifters).

What is the strongest CV(double cardon) that can be found on an already existing vehicle that i can mount to a dana300?

Cruiser/Mini-Truck Hybrid Axle Build

Made it home today for Easter Break. Started building on my cruiser/mini truck hybrid axle build today. Ive researched some of these that have been built in the past and im kinda taking it a different route than normal. This has been done before...

What I have:
1984 Mini-Truck Rear axle
1988 4-Runner Rear axle
1974 FJ40 Rear axle

What I am doing:
FJ40 center section - 1984 mini-truck axle tubes - 1988 Toyota shafts and larger style brakes

Reasoning:
Strongest Toyota axle i can build with centered section from a FJ40.
Using the 1988 shafts will allow me to have a WMS-WMS of ~58" rather than the stock FJ40 and stock Mini-truck WMS-WMS of ~55"
Also get the better brakes of the later model Toyota trucks

1984 Mini-truck center section and axle tubes cut:

FJ40 center section with the 1984 Mini-truck axle tubes that will go together:

The tight fit I will have b/w the two:

If you mean why not run the whole mini rear axle, then its because the housing is so weak on them. With the torque of the 4bt, that axle isn't strong enough to support the twisting force. Also im using the cruiser 3rd member, which is obviously what is up front and is much larger that the mini 3rds. Plus my cruiser 3rd is fine-spline.

Couldnt get much done yesterday while working with my buddy Eli getting his built SB400 running in his bag'd to drag 53 bel-air..

little video:

More build pics:

You can see here i drilled and tapped three 3/8-16 holes to use as an adjusting mechanism to help square up the axle...

Where the depth of the splines will be set too.
