Thanks bcraider!
Not much of a update. I cant really do much work without my cruiser. But since i dont have the cruiser back yet, i have time to do cool things to this motor like upgrading the turbo and replacing seals and making intake tubing. After tearing the hy35w apart for the rebuild, i put some 1500degree paint on the exhaust housing and manifold and put it back together, it was a piece of cake! the easiest turbo to rebuild by far! I got the alignment pins cut off tonight, so now i can freely rotate the housings however i want them. I ended up with what i think i will run if the hood of the cruiser will allow it, i think it should. It almost works out great with the wastegate ears on the intake housing, they line up pretty close to what they should(in-line with the lever on the exhaust housing). And, i think running the exhaust behind the motor will also work out great with the neck of the hy35w, i was able to rotate it to point directly behind the motor(pic3)

should have posted this first, but heres the story behind the 6bt manifold i chopped. Well i got it back yesterday from my tig welding friend. He did an awesome job! I provided him with the chopped manifold and the two end caps(i got from the material i cut off) and he welded it for me. He said he tig welded it with a nickel rod, and ran 3 different beads. He said the first, small bead, helped heat up the area slowly and that by the 3rd bead it was good and hot and took the weld very nicely!. Im excited about it. If you see the previous post, you can see it mounted and painted.

Hope you get your cruiser back soon.

Just a couple of thoughts: As for turbo to hood clearance you can control that to some degree by how you mount the engine in the bay. Of course you'll have to compromise with diff to oil pan clearance. For me that turbo would be hitting my hood but I could have dropped the engine a little plus you can always modify the oil pan. With the turbo close to the hood you'll definitely want some heat wrap and even some shielding so you don't cook your paint from underneath. When hauling or getting on it up a hill I can see temps around 1200F. Your manifold did turn out really nice. I wasn't as diligent on prepping the surface (didn't get it blasted) and the paint is flaking off now. With a clean base yours should hold up better.

Thanks Chappy!

Well, the latest news has me saying...."One thing after another!!!!!"
If you dont know, i just settled with the insurance company after 3 months of negotiating! haven't seen the cruiser since the wreck. We were able to work a deal out with the insurance company for them to bring me the cruiser. after talking to the guy who is driving it here, he informed me it didnt have the top, so the salvage yard lost the white fiberglass cap during transit at some point. Seems like when i called them time after time to tell them this would happen, it never sunk in.....:crybaby:

that sucks hovis.

if you want another fiberglass top i think that toyota techs down off 21 in fort mill might still have a few. i can't remember if you said you had talked to them in the past or not.

Hey, thanks malph. Yeah i have talked to them a few times, if they have one they are gonna want 1,000 for it. They have a fj60 front axle up there they wont $800 for and it looks piss poor! I found the fiberglass top already though, but thanks for the heads up.

ha ha, exactly. those guys are either dirt cheap or completely ridiculous. they wanted 10k for some of those 40 carcasses in the yard.

so what's the deal with the project...is this thing goin up to state with you in the fall?

Your right!

Man, i wish i could tell you. I think i will have enough money to do a complete resto. But i think id rather keep it as is. Im gonna change it over to this other frame, and maybe run some tube fenders and call it good. "Chicks dig body damage" right!? I think i can have it done before Christmas. I hope so, im ready to take it up the mountain and do a little wheeling and snowboarding. I couldnt get the dang thing up the mountain before! haha. Wish me luck. Whats new with your project!?

No Sr. .. hold a breath and this it's a true Cruiser .. take a good night out with your wife and tomorrow will be a great day .. !

pulling the motor was a major pain! i decided i didnt want to pull the t-case or trans off, so i pulled it as a whole. I had to mark all the connections because i know in a couple months when i go to put it all back together i wont know what goes where.

The motor was well oiled......on the outside!
