Hello,
I am new on the site, I am sadly not a mechanic😬, and I recently bought a Overland rig on a Toyota Dyna 4x4 with a diesel 3l engine and a manual transmission and equipped with a temperature gage at the exit of the motor 😀

I know that these engines tend to overheat of pushed too hard, and I try to keep the temperature under 650 Celsius… but it makes it soooo slow …
Someone have a tip/mods to increase the power of this motor ?

Thanks !

What a lovely vaDyna!

Give it the best chance to shine for you:

  • Nice high tyre pressures
  • Injectors in great condition (good spray patterns)
  • Clean Air filter
  • Minimise the weight as much as you can
  • Verify the timing is exactly correct
I suspect your weight is quite high and is unlikely to come down dramatically.. learn to enjoy the view, take every long cut and explore every back track.

plenty of turbo options available for that engine, but given the install into that chassis, they may require some aftermarket work. Best longevity if kept naturally aspirated. use a good diesel oil, Shell Rotella T6 5w40 or 15w40, toyota filters, do the timing belt, water pump, 10 bladed fan upgrade and fan hub, and enjoy the hell out of it

Sorry. That thing won’t be fast ever - nature of the beast.
