What color is the bottom of the tranny tunnel?

picking up the tub and some parts tomorrow :D

Any advice or gotchas with the stock body mount kits? ( seems pretty straight forward to me but ya never know )

Thanks guys!

Make sure to keep everything loose. Work your way around the tub. Mine took a bit of persuasion before everything lined up.

My 64 had the black firewall, under hood, etc. originally and I also went with black.

It looks like your paint guy's got some talent. As I said before it will be worth the wait.

If you have any suggestions on how to get another rig without the wife knowing let me know. My wife didn't realise I bought my Harley for 6 months. I hid it at my shop!:p FJ40/45's are a bit bigger!

Thanks man :D

Haha, i still cannot tell weather my wife was joking or trying to determine if i was thinking about it haha.

haha seriously :D

Or she wants dibs on it haha!
She was like a possessed woman driving mine, she loves it :D

Then you must think ahead.
There is a really nice LV for sale not too far from you...don't remember the year, but I know that I was never really into LV's, and I would jump on this one if I could swing it! This thing is sweet!!!
At least you'll have the back seat for the future kids, and you'll still have room in the back for dogs, and stuff ;)

nice!

I see your point about the lv, but damn i love the 45's :D

I know what you mean. My wife saw a local '63 short bed, and she loved it!!! I wouldn't mind one, but then I'd have no room for the dogs, and besides the fact that I am not ready to buy one today, I can tell you that not having that extra space for the dogs is a big problem for me, as my daughter will not want to leave them at home. If I ever get around to getting the '64 finished, I'd like something like an LV or Troopy for day or weekend trips. They are just big enough for an overnight trail ride...and you can sleep in them.

Anyways...it's not for now, and I'm just thinking out loud, but it would be nice.

This spring I'd like to get the '64 safe and on the road again...we'll see...I think it needs it after sitting in a barn for so many years :)

Keep the pics coming...it really helps while I wait for the snow to melt

I am so close to pulling the trigger and agreeing to do a FST...

Oh sweet! Post pics of the FST your thinking about doing :D

I don't know just yet. It's a big deal as they are very few of them.

What year?

65 ish
River blue, khaki top, coral interior and skinny tires. Non US color combo.

I think he already posted one picture.

Because the cowl was not painted black I thought it might be a 65

Rare? That's what I use to think and made me buy the first one. Problem is there were like Lays potato chips. Just can't have one. I finally stopped at six.:bang:

I touched a FST last week that has been in storage and no black and it was white.

Reguarding mounting the body to the frame: bolt the body to the mounts loosly, attach fenders, aprons, front bib, and hood. then shut the hood to align all panels, when happy bolt it tight and check everything for squareness. Then loosten all bolts and align and tighten the body again. It will be perfect. Too many frame off folks get the body back, bolt it down and can't get the front clip square. Simple "'DO IT TWICE" operation. PS, lookin great. John

Thanks John! :D

And thanks for the info about mounting the tub!
Will keep things loose until i can line up all the bits :D

Don`t know if you change your cars (toys) like underwear,
if not, I would grease all screws before mounting.
In the engine bay / exhaust (hot) use cooper paste on the others ordinary grease, prevents rust on the screws thread

All except wheel nuts !!!

man i WISH restoring OEM soft doors was just that easy!:p

needless to say.. the paint job looks KILLER!! i'm checking this thread 3 times a day at LEAST from here on in.. so :wrench: AWAY!!

Thin nylon washers and Vaseline are the true trick to assembly. You can torque down without tearing paint, another tip, wisdom I have done it and nothing works better Mr Greenspan. Kinda like sweating metal before paint.. O s*** is that why modern paint booths pre heat and get over 100 degrees??

Also expansion foam in all captive and box areas to kill oxygen and moisture.
