First off, great work, great pictures, great everything so far.

Apart from the admirable goal of keeping your cruiser as stock as possible, is there an advantage/disadvantage to the early canister filters v. the later spin-on filters? Looks like my PO bought a conversion kit and I've got a modern filter now. Does it make any difference other than the "look?"

I think the newer ones are easier to change...
And likely filter slightly better.
But i think it is negligible

However someone might know better than I

so this is the oil filter stuff...

1) can i clean and reuse the old filter?

2) what is the spring for? an option instead of the spacer ( it was between the cap for the filter and the outer canister lid )

3) the other ring was floating inside, what is that?

Man i cannot wait till it is running again.

Dan is great guy to deal with. You don't happen to know if he still has free shipping on orders over $100 if they aren't to large or weight to much? I thinking it's time to go thru the old parts book and see what I can still get.

all the other bits look like the have been done, and are waiting for epoxy primer
