I personally think that would be the way to go. But it's your coin and SOR sells a kit MUCH cheap, but its black.

Bring over your covers, I will match up to some that I have and give you a sample of the vinyl to play with.

I think they have more brown in the them. The 61 I just picked up still has the original seat covers. Plus the 62 soft top tub I bought from Georg still had the front seat with origanl seat cover but in poor shape. Now that I think of it I have the original jump seats from my other 61 hard top. I will compare them. I'll post up what I find but it won't happen until next week sometime. Headed to the cool country as soon as I get home from work:cheers:

I do agree, BUT I stripped a set down and found the vinyl on the welt cord to match and this was behind the stitch line and the bottom.

Ill find a pic, and remember that is with a flash.

here are my findings.

I am not sure how to link the pic alone.

Yeah I just do not know if those 3 colors jive together or not...

The covers on it when i bought it were black leather...

I remember you showing me the coral brown material,
But it was a little more brown that that photo yeah?

I could always go the black color route, but the brown would look pretty good tooo.
What you guys think?

def more brown yeah :D

Looking at the pictures that looks alot closer. But I also wondering what that rubber cement looking glue is around the edge. Are you sure these are original seat covers. The mess around the edge doesn't look like some of MR T's work.

IH8MUD.com - View Single Post - FJ45 Pickup. Is this the correct color for the seats?

So Shane, did you ever come up with this Red material, or any other close to original material for 1966? Or did you decide it was not worth your time? Has anyone seen the covers that SOR sells? Are they any good? The cost is reasonable. But do they look like sh#%&t or close to factory? If there is one thing that will make or break a quality resto, it is the upholstery. When you see seats that have been recovered and they are all wrinkled and gathered around the edges it just looks like crap.

The cement you see and the vinyl is the welt cord on the backs along the metal plate. The glue held the material in position and yes 100% original seats.

I have a set of SOR covers that I got from crazygreek and they are simply replacement parts.

Some folks cant swallow a large investment in reproduction upholstery. This includes parts and installation. But again, research to find out what it costs for a Cuda or Classic car is original or reproduction bits.

The cost for the material is so high on reproduction vinyl that I just can build more than a few sets at a time.

Then again some people don't care and I have seen many that look great with non OE.

Here's a little secret, I am supplying Toyota with some vinyl for a resto for one of their museums.

It is so hard to tell from pictures...these have to be placed side by side, and then a pic taken. Mine all look as stock as can be...not perfect, but I do not believe they were changed...too much on this truck is still 1964 that I seriously doubt someone had the time to make such seat reproductions. This is what they look like with my camera, and this lighting. Best would be flip one seat over, and put a small sample of your new material next to it, and then take a pic. If you have a small EDIT sample piece to 'test', send me a PM , and I'll send you my address.

Here are a few pics...dirty yes, but they look beautiful to me...can't wait to have the chance to really clean them up

Edit 2...other jump seats looks the same.

Yes Shane, I totally understand. I am a bit picky and figure that if I am taking the time to do it right, which I am, why cut corners. The first hurtle is finding a quality material that looks good, then someone who knows how to stitch. I would love to see what you found for the museum.

looks like the body work and painting will prolly take about a month ( they have other than just me )
Looks like i need to grab and extra work project while i wait till things are ready :D

2k is kinda rich for my blood right now Shane ( painting and body work is a bundle )
Might do sor covers until i can afford to have them done properly ;)

lol, THAT WAS AN EXAMPLE!

I will edit that statement.

All looking great. I know what you mean by the fast forward button.

For your info I had a Motor Trimmer in Melbourne redo some seats for me - Front drivers and passangers. They are just grey, but complete rebuild from the frames and upholstered for $500 Aussie. There is a fair bit of dust on the seats in this pic.
