( i forgot )

Any one have a photos of where the ground runs from there starter>?

Thanks!

Awesome progress! I have been out of town for weeks. But was following along when I could!
Very nice!! I gotta get up to PDX one of these days...by the pics it looks like you may be in my old neighborhood or close to it. Keep it up man! Not sure if my 69 is wired the same as the earlier stuff...but I can snap a pic later today for ya.

Thanks man :)

shop is in brooklyn hood.

Def snap a shot when you can, i am sure the grounding is all pretty similar :)

ok off to makes some "progress" :D

yeah.. it goes under the junction like the above pic. Mine is flat braided ground strap

perfect thanks guys :D
yeah my ground is flat braided metal too :)

Te old clear tubing from the tank to the pump is hard and old, i think i will have to replace it with the black tubing as i cannot find the clear stuff :(

Also the pump to the carb is black fuel line too, no hard lines :(

Starter ground

Destin, I was looking at some other pics i have of my tear down and thought this one might be of a little value also. I made notes on some pics so that I would understand years later when I got around to putting it back together. The Bolt that grounds the starter also fastens down a splash guard.

I bought some aircraft rated fuel line and re used the old fittings and crimped back together with new clamps

thanks for the photos guys.
I have the splash guard etc ready to go.
Have to find some connectors for some new line and pop it in :D

I think this is where the original cable ground was when i took it apart ( the lower bolt i never touched so it was not there, the one under the starter )

Would this ground correctly?

Local House of Hose,Nevada House of Hose The guy was cool he cut off all the OEM fittings off the clear hose and crimped the end on the new aircraft hose for me, and did the same for the filter to fuel pump side too cost was $48. I am sure you could use a lot less expensive hose but i wanted something that would last forever. for the two hoses. I use the same Hose pinchers at work to repair water hoses

ok, clearly my ground was not set up correctly before i tore it down...

look at these tear down photos...

Looks like the braided wire is going form the frame to nowhere near the starter...

So i need to attach it to the lower starter bolt eh?

so it needs to be like this?

even for early starters?

That last photo looks better than the one showing the ground strap going to the positive terminal of the starter:eek:. I would have to check but I think there are two grounding straps. One from the battery to the frame and then a second one from the frame to the engine. Right by the starter is a good place. The starter draws the most amperage by far than anything else.

Thanks :)

The other ground for the battery connects to the frame at the front splash guard bolt.

Thanks for the confirmation of using the started mount bolt to ground to the frame. Wanted to be 100 percent sure with anything electrical ( i know very little in that regard )

Thanks again, i appreciate it :D

 I thought the ones I have are steel:confused:

I think the vacuum advance line is brass.

Mine are copper on the early cruisers. I think the early are brass and the later (on my 76) is steel. I don't know when they changed.

I would keep you clear line. If it's not leaking that line it almost bulletproof. This is a resto right?

You have the time... get some copper line and make yourself one. Making the bends would be easy.

Make sure you use the star washer to dig into the frame. You will be chasing bad grounds and trying to figure out why stuff doesn't work or works intermittently if you don't get through that paint if it's thick.
