Sorry I missed out; looks like good family fun.

just got my new fj40 delivered this evening.. any fj40 folks in orlando area.?
Congratulations! There is Luis (LC60). If you wake up one morning with some grease spots on the driveway and a missing transfer case, you can guess where it went.

Luis, so that gear is supposed to have teeth on it? :D

Is that gear part of the shaft or is it removable ?

It's good to see it is repairable.

Time to hit the backyard and pull one out of storage . I'm guessing the case broke too or is it ok ?

That doesn't look much like gear oil in there, either!

Wish I could have made it out. Looks like you had to much fun with out me. Maybe next time. My ride is slowly coming along. I have all the major parts to get it complete, but time is hard to find these days. I am trying to plan my wedding and building a rock crawler out of my garage. So wish me luck ;-)

With what, the wedding or the crawler?!?!

No not at all. Just can't spend all my money on my toy just yet. Will have to wait for wedding money. Wish me luck on that one. I am finding out, I am spending more on tools to fab this baby up then the car itself.

Its a race against time to finish my baby before trying to build another one.

Ok guys, I'm putting together my checklist for GSMTR. I've got Luis' old camp stove and 6 bottles of fuel for it (and or others).

I'm planning on getting some sliders from Metal Tech delivered up there (thanks to Roger), so I've already got work to do once I get there (any volunteers to help me install them?!?).

What else can I bring to help out here?

Bring what you think you might need . Keep in mind the weather , last year the first 2 or 3 days it rained pretty much all the time . Plus it was alittle cool , so be prepared for weather conditions , don't trust the weather experts .

Camping gear is always good to have , but here again bring what you think you might need . Most of the time I'll just load up all my gear , unless it's just an over nighter . It's better to have it and not need it ,than to need it and not have it . If you will remember that you should be ok in any situation .

Food , only you can know what to bring on that subject . All I can say is if you run out , there's all kinda stores close by plus all kind's of restaurants . So I don't think you'll go hungry . I would suggest you bring so kinda small cooler . That way you can bring some drinks and food with you while you're on the trails . We will be stopping from time to time so if you get hungry or thristy you got it .

Other than that , just make sure your truck is ready for the trip . Check all fluids don't forget front &rear diffs , transfercase , brakes , hoses , belts , filters , wipers , washer fluid , grease all grease fittings . Just go over your truck from top to bottom , front to back , side to side . Double check TIRE AIR PRESSURE . Also you have a nice 80 put a good wax job on it it will help protect the paint .

I'm sure I missed something but no worries someone esle will add to or take away my suggestions .

I just did a fluid flush - diffs, tranny, oil. While it was on the lift I did a once-over on all the parts I couldn't normally see, and everything looked good.

Got all my camping gear - I'm actually re-doing the camp stove Luis gave me - taking it down to bare metal and re-painting. It should look nice for the trip :)

I believe I have everything I need - I'm curious if there's anything else I should bring that could help out communally. I'm also bringing an old set of wheel bearings, plenty of fluids (for the truck, not for me!)... tools... I've actually got my intake manifold apart right now trying to get all the crap out of the EGR system. She should be in real good shape to go!

As for food - do most of you guys pack it in coolers/bins and haul up, or stop somewhere near Sparta to supply up before heading in?

Well, the magaflux of the head showed "many" cracks, one being about 6 inches long. And thus, the head is trash.

A fellow Mudder in NC has two, and I bought one and he is shipping it to me. Should get it in about two weeks. Another pig, another poke...

WOW ! That's a big crack , must have ran hot a couple of times . Going to try and put it on before GSMTR or just wait until after ?

Me personally, I pack 2 or 3 days of food to bring up. That way I don't have to shop for food after driving all day., and miss a trail ride the next morning because I'm out shopping.
Three days is when the ice finally finishes melting. That way I'll only have to go to the store once mid week and get Ice and food all in one shot and have food and ice for the rest of the week.

I just bring a grill to throw over the fire and cook burgers, chicken and hot dogs.
I also bring cans of beans, chowder and soup that also can be heated over the fire in the can they came in.
That way all i have to bring is a roll of tin foil, a spatula, a fork, spoon and knife.
No pots, pans, stoves, plates, bowls, etc

I buy disposable baking tins or pie pans to cook breakfast in. Throw them in the trash after cooking in them

Almost forgot, I think they sell ice there.

And don't forget the beverages :beer::cheers:

I purchase mine before hand because so many different places have different laws on alcohol sales.
I don't know what the laws are there.
