I'd sell the truck for parts to @TonyP we'd all love to see what he'd do with it! 🙂 In all seriousness though, a 300k mile 200 with a blown engine and tranny isn't worth putting $10-20k into. The truck in perfect running shape is worth less than $20k for sure, probably only in the $15k range. Don't through good money after bad. I'd sell it and move on.

If the dealer won’t do the job with a used engine an independent mechanic will. The trick is finding a good one, but they are definitely out there.

I still don’t see how it hosed the transmission other than maybe steam in the radiator raising the trans fluid temp.. even that seems like a long shot to actually cause damage so quickly.

The problem is without a running engine it may be difficult to verify the transmission is good.
That’s exactly what they told me. They have to tell me worst case scenario. I’m trying to find an independent mechanic near Phillie and Newark, Delaware. I will also try to DM the guy recommended on here. Keeping fingers crossed.

I think that’s the most logical thing to do but sometimes I’m not logical.....😱. You’re absolutely right though!

I've got $8k cash that I'd give you for it. :)

IIRC a low mileage Tundra/Sequoia might be a good option. I recently read thread (here) that involved doing just that. Some accessories were LC specific but overall it worked just fine.

Here is the thread, mostly plug and play. Member found a low mileage Tundra 5.7 for $1,500:

This is the route I would go. A low mileage 5.7 from a Tundra can be found easily for $2500-$3000. I'd assume you could find one for even cheaper if you get lucky at a local yard. I'd probably avoid the Flex Fuel option just to be safe, as it may have different connectors (no idea).

If it were me I would also probably look for a used engine, but the challenge will be finding a local indy shop that will do the job and give you any sort of a guarantee/warranty. Some dealers will swap in used engines, Meineke paid to have a used engine installed in my daughter's Corolla several years ago (messed up oil change). A lot of this comes down to how much hassle are you willing to put up with and how much do you really want to keep that truck.

I'd check out JDM Engines in Philly. I talked to them when I lived in DC, but ended up going a different route when they couldn't source what I needed. They have really good reviews and decent prices. I did a quick check and they don't have a 5.7 in stock, but they may be able to source it, and can probably give you guidance on a recommended installer nearby. Hope it works out!
