Heading to Portland this afternoon for vacation! Good friends live in Bingen, WA which is 50 miles east on the Columbia river. Part of the time we are renting a house near Canon beach on the coast. That's part 1 of vacation, we return home for part 2: joining group of college friends for 4 days on Bourbon Trail in KY. 4 couples renting party bus!

Very nice! Wish I was here in Portland for a vacation. Hoping to get some time this afternoon to check the city out. Any recommendations?

Powell Books is a Landmark and the area surrounding it is cool to explore, Voodoo Donuts (2 locations if I remember correctly) is quite the experience if you haven't ever been to one (they are now in Austin, a couple in CO, etc.) as they started in Portland. If you have a few hours and a rental car I would suggest driving up to Mt. Hood. Beautiful drive and scenery!
@lt1fire could probably make some additional recommendations......

My advice for Portland.... when on the 5 and you see Welcome to Portland.... put fookin foot down hard on go pedal and let off when you see the welcome to Washington Sign.
Seriously 1/2 the population is bat**** crazy. LOL

actually I haven't been to Portland in a real capacity in over 10 years but I still hear it is crazy down there. I do have a list of things I want to do when I do go down there again on the train at some point.

Most of these aren't really in Portland but around there and i've done them before but they beg a revisit.

Hiking near Mt Hood and a drive up it.

Multnomah falls

Brewery Tour (one thing they do get right, think Asheville but on roids, its right there with Northern San Diego county for best beer area in the country)

Japanese Gardens

Powell's City of Books

Stopping by metal tech to say hi to Mark again, always a great guy to chat with.

Walk the waterfront and do a food tour

If staying in portland the public transport rivals a european city so no worries about getting around. It really is a great place from what I hear these days not as crazy as old times but still have flair ups every now and again. LOL If getting out of the city you could rent or do a zip car to get to some great trails for hiking. The northern part of the state has some trails that start to rival some in WA and are incredibly beautiful.

Enjoy... sorry can't be more help than that. I think @jfz80 has been there fairly recently so would be much more help than I am.

It's the facist car in town

Overland Expo, Ford will regret asking the Top Gear crew to put stickers on trucks. "Never again" I heard them say.

You beat me to it. They were doing test drives up here at the Seattle auto show also, forgot to upload this over the weekend. Bet it was a hell of a lot more fun in the dirt

They didnt do dirt, closed the "circuit", only did rides around the paved roads. The grass hill was too wet for them to climb.

Guess I can return my Overland East official attire, since I couldnt get to a bus stop.

I feel so bad my earfroamer (knock off of the Earthroamer) got stuck in the parking lot. I'll try to get the new Michelin parkin lot trekkers mounted up, once they come in 345/95/28
