millas...I'm building one of these truck also. Would like to see some pics of your truck. It will give me some incentive to get my build going. Sent you a pm with my email address.

millas sent me come cool pics of his truck. I especially like the tool boxes on the sides below the bed.

Hi Yoop

Nice Build so far.

As you know I have 1HZ's. My old 80 had a DTS turbo which was great.

When I bought my 100 I wanted a turbo diesel but a solid front. The only way to do this is get a 1HZ and turbo it. I don't have a turbo fitted yet to the 100 but it is on the way. Can't wait. I will be going for an intercooler too this time round.

I had my 80 on the dyno straight after my mates tuned 1HD-FTE there was 0.8hp difference between them. Close enough for me and the 1HZ is cheaper.

Re LC taillights. We just threw out about 100 7X series taillights the other day at work. We couldn't get rid of them.

In OZ most 7x series have a flat bed tray rather than the ute body. IMHO the ute body is ugly, Real 7x series have a tray. But each to their own....

If you need any 79 questions answered from OZ PM me or email me.

Hi Mick!

Yeah I suspect you'll hear from me, I'm sure I'll have questions.

There are very few tray backs in the US. There is one company I think that makes them and not for a LandCruiser pickup because there aren't any of those either!

Mick...if you really threw out 100 sets of taillights there is $10k in the dumpster mate...well that is if you can find a buyer...which I guess you guys didn't. I know you could probably sell quite a few to all of us building a 79 in the states.

Welcome to*Ute Ltd - Manufacturers of Tough Aluminum Pick-up Truck Products

Buddy of mine in OZ has one real similar to this...but is is on a Hilux

That's the company I was talking about. It would have to be a custom job I think, I don't know how adjustable their mounting system is, but they've designed their beds for US spec truck models, all of which are quite differently shaped than a LandCruiser, which is narrow and long. It's probably doable though.

I'm sticking with the factory bed for now though, since I have it.

I like this canopy they make, would be sweet for camping:

I called and talked to them a few weeks ago...pretty cool guy (cant remember his name) we mostly were talking about converting one of their beds to work on a 4 door tacoma. i think your right though even on that one there are modifications that need to be done (not by them but the installer professional). but maybe down the road they can throw one LC79 bed in their container from OZ :D

good luck with the build...very excited to see all the progress

Yooper, are you planning to drive it back home from Utah? A western state tour might be fun.

It's at the Colorado shop. Yes, will fly out and drive it home. Probably not much time for touring unfortunately, time off is a huge expense for me. It would actually be cheaper to ship it but I need to meet the guys that built it.

now are you going to be running a factory snorkel?
what the plan mod wise for this truck yooper?

Yes of course, factory snorkel, why would I delete that?

Mod? It's brand new, being built to my specifications. If there are any modifications to be made by me later I haven't thought of them yet. Do you mean different than Toyota factory? That's all in the thread above already I think.

I think this is not a custom built HZJ79. Is complete factory HZJ79 just without the front mud guard. Am I right???

Give a Toyota factory overfender to your HZJ79, OEM suspension, factory or safari snorkel, alloy rim, bull bar...... 70 series is for more than modification to be list.
