I was just at proffits last week picking up a 79 body.....I saw bits and pieces of your truck. Saw the frame was back from powder coating and your body had been bed lined. Checked out johns truck and another customer who had the frame shortened and bed bobbed.
Looking forward to building mine but its gonna take a while to round up all the bits and pieces. ts a real shame these trucks didn't come with the interior...

It's a real shame, any way you look at it--philosophically, economically, etc.--that these trucks never came to the US market. The entire "game" would be different if you had a certain portion of a population--even if it was small--buying these vehicles here and silently brandishing what they were about and what they could do...

The real sadness for me is that seeing what Toyota manufactures today is pretty much a worldwide "Americanization" of their products...be it in Nagoya, or in Tel Aviv, or in Istanbul, or in New York, or in Montreal, etc.

Rationalization par excellence....

Luckily we have artisans like Jeremiah whom are continuing, taking forward the true TEQ traditions.

damn I got to get out of Hunting and Fishing more......I had no clue you were building a 70.......you bastard! :flipoff2:

I had the same thought a few months ago........we need a shop Cruiser :D

This is real nice to read. But why not go for a 1FZ-FE instead of a 1HZ? Also, if you still battle to find a solution for your rear bumper/tow hitch, PM me your email adress and I'll send you pics of mine..

I want a turbodiesel.

If I was going to go with gasoline I would choose a 2UZ-FE. ;)

address PM imminent...

2 UZ-FE is real expensive for us to buy, so we stick to the 1FZ that's standard in some 79's. Some guys around here got tired of the 1HZ and started doing 1UZ FE conversions.. E-Mail on it's way..

Where is "here"? You don't have a location in the signature line.

Apologies. South Africa.

Just curious, what exactly about the 1HZ is causing you guys to get tired and swap out the engines?:)

The slow no power for a 2.5-3 t vehicle when offroading

I drove a 1HZ 79 for 3 years, and in town it was a lovely vehicle. But where I live theres lots of hills etc, and you always had to row the gearstick back and forth to get somewhere. It was always an issue to get to the trails and eventually I just got tired of the no power and sold the truck. Most guys around here feels the same about the 1HZ.

g'day from australia we have thousands of 1hz's in oz they are slow and not great on fuel but you can get good results from a turbo and intercooler it's hard to beat the 1hdt-fe briliant motor.
