@oilbrnr , way better than that Ironman.

Guy at Beatty RV park that hung out with us. I still think he has many stories to tell us

I sure hope it's not him. The guy was laying low in the Starship RV park under the assumed name 'Keith' (*as he couldn't tell me his real name), living out of a trailer. In his mid-80's I'm guessing, Keith' educated us all on the ways of the world.

We were sitting around a campfire-in-a-can chatting and 'Keith' walked up and was commenting on our temporary campsite prior to our drop into Death Valley via Titus Canyon. He sat quietly for a time, and then started into his explanations of the local LE (2 officers in Beatty), how they knew never to pull him over, because then his name would pop up on the CIA radar. He also expounded of his time in 'The Nams' and Cambodia which led to his service to this Great Nation in the CIA. While stationed in Cartejena, Colombia, he was responsible for several assassinations and kidnappings of high value drug cartel members, including one which put out a hit on his life several years back which required full battle rattle callout of the entire 2-person Beatty Police Department to this very RV park to defend his life against imminent attack. The officers there carry M16's with the autobark feature, so I'm told.

When I mentioned that I'd been to Cartajena before, and thought all Drug Interdiction work by CIA was run out of Bogota - he quickly informed me that the really deep undercover work was in Cartejena. 'Keith' was very up-front about his exploits, which is rare in this day and age of the internet and free information. 'Keith' mentioned his work on behalf of our gov.org last October during which he was asked to speak at a parole hearing for a major Colombian drug cartel member who was set for release - and for which he testified to keep the man in federal prison. The bullet we all dodged on that one was clearly spelled out around the glow of the campfire.

I asked 'Keith' why he chose to live in a trailer park in Podunk (ahem, Beatty), NV, his reply was that living off the grid was the only way to avoid the drug cartels tracking him down, and that NV has open carry laws - but he doesn't carry a gun anymore, because it just attracts attention. I showed 'Keith' the AZ version of a CCW permit - which is no longer even required - and lo and behold, he had a permit of his own; a gleaming brass CCW badge in his wallet that he displayed proudly.

All of this information is on a need-to-know basis, of course. I just sat and humored an old man and his dreams, hoping that it wasn't all true!

I'm an average man with a husky build and until recently I never believed these stories were true. I had passed a few signs on my way to Beatty, NV advertising aliens, hot sauce, diner and brothel so being a bit hungry I decided to pull in and check out the "blue plate special".

I entered from the rear..........

Excellent recap @LongDuck . I didn't hear every thing he espoused as I was somewhat bemused and entranced and found myself staring at the lone tooth on 'Keiths' bottom pallete. Nice enough guy. I hope to be as energetic but a little more off the grid when I reach his esteemed status.

Regardless, I had an amazing time with the CSC club last weekend and salute you each for taking me in. I will miss this months QT meeting...My family will be in Lake Havasu for my sons mountain bike race where we hope to have breakfast with Eric's dad (200 series navigator) Bill on Sunday. We want to check out his '77 FJ40 and spend some more time with him.

Take good notes and even better pictures. I need to return my 'pink CB mast surprise' to Brice and Tina. I have worn them all week but continue to get a nasty wedgie at each fitting : )

You guys and gals rock! Thanks.

Steve, I have your trailer hitch ready when you get back to town. You were a great camping partner and trail repair wingman, we would fly with you anytime.

I hope your wife understood the humor in the "pink panties".

Steve, Thank you... I found myself missing you guys and gals all week - what a great adventure!!! Hang on that hitch until we see each other again. Family is in Havasu for Sammy's mountain bike race and some R&R this weekend. Would love to bring some frosty's and see your garage stash before the March meeting. The CSC is an amazing bunch! Tech session in your garage for the next meet?

Wife Joni and son Sam found the humor and delight in my new britches. Fixing to get several new colors for daily wear : )

Thanks Steve!!

Ahhh yes, the Alien Center gas an ummm... ahem... "Services" building. A very interesting place at 1AM. Pitch black outside other than the "you didn't see those lights coming from the east (by way of Area 51, just over the hill)". Hilarious that the persons no longer able to provide "Services" are now relegated to cashier duty in the convenience store. Beatty, NV. LOL

INTRODUCTION OF FIRST TIME GUESTS / NEW MEMBERS

Chris @CruisinAz attended his first meeting. We won't hold it against him that he didn't bring his 1984 FJ60, originally purchased by his grandmother. It's in the shop at Camelback Toyota.

ROTM

ROTM series is for everyone to get out with their trucks, regardless of skill level, so everyone can learn how to wheel safely. No one wants to see someone damage their truck.

January ROTM was led by Ron @Dimples to Fossil Creek - January ROTM Fossil Creek 1/30/16

February ROTM - Jason @jclarke450 is leading a run to Box Canyon on Sat. Feb 27th. For additional details - February ROTM 2/27/16 Most Likely Box Canyon

March ROTM - Kirk @Chaos55 is leading a run to Sheep's Bridge for an overnight, if you're interested in camping, on March 19th - March ROTM

April ROTM - Richard @Otter This is definitely going to be an overnight trip.

May ROTM - We need volunteers for May ROTM

June ROTM - Eric @Pitch

July ROTM - Jason @jclarke450 discussed camping on the North Rim for a possible multi-day trip. North Rim/Jacob Lake July Trip

Keep an eye on the forum for dates and threads for these runs. Summer months are perfect time to head north and get some altitude for cooler weather.

DEATH VALLEY TRIP OVERVIEW

The Death Valley Group had an awesome trip with lots of excitement. Several motorists were rescued by club members. Field repairs were made on a Subaru WRX with a broken strut, two stranded ladies were assisted with their flat tire at Ubehebe Crater, and a family was attempting to four wheel in Lexus sedan on Lippincott trail before we convinced them to turn around.

CSC GOALS FOR 2016

We want a ROTM for every month this year.

The Rubbish Bin thread has been started. If you go out on a run, help out with Leave No Trace by picking up trash and posting pics of your collections here.

ONE TIME MEETING LOCATION CHANGE

We'd like to move the meeting location one month to a more Northern or Western location for an upcoming meeting. Tempe isn't convenient for all club members, and we hope this will get members to attend that haven't been able to make it to a meeting yet.

NOTE: This would not be a permanent change. This would be for one meeting.

If you have any ideas of a good spot in one of these areas, post it up here -
Alternative Meeting locations

TRUCK WRENCHING DAY

There was discussion regarding getting together with club members who needed assistance with work on their trucks. Based on interest, we might schedule something like this once we determine a good location and time. For Example: you just rolled your truck and you need help moving parts from your old truck to your new truck. (Not talking about anyone in particular ;))

ATTENDANCE

200s - 1
100s - 2
80s - 8 (FJ80s - 2,
FZJ80s - 6)
60s - 1
4runner - 1

Thanks to Jason @jclarke450 for running the meeting in Phil's absence.

Thanks to Jackson @medtro for taking pics.

Back in the day, we would have "Westside Beerings" for those of us NWSiders that can't always make it to Tempe. Basically just an informal meeting at a restaurant/bar, parking our rigs together in the parking lot, talking Cruisers, Club, world hunger, etc. and then have a beer or three, and maybe grab some grub together. These were in supplement to the regular club meetings. Ironically I was just talking to @samtoddlee about putting one of these together. Guess I better get on it.

Living In Casa Grande, makes me central to the state and convenient to nowhere. We will travel to wherever the meetings are. I do like the idea of having them somewhere that dinner/firewater can be served and consumed. Meetings should be outside, but gathering afterwards can happen as well. I would like to float the idea of a 1 time meeting in Casa Grande to try and get the Tucson contingent to meet halfway potentially.

My thoughts would be to alternate the meetings at the regular location and then other locations to suit the members home areas. Just a thought.
